There are lots of virtues that make up a human being but for one reason or the other, we have lost those virtues, especially in this present generation. No one cares about a good name anymore, what matters most is achieving their aims either good or bad. People tend to forget that "a good name is better than great riches", I have come in contact with people who say they don't care about upholding a good name once they are rich, all that's important is money, once that is achieved they are very much okay.
Being truthful is one virtue I believe every human should possess but surprisingly, it is the most forgotten virtue in our societies today and which is causing lots of uproar in the society. Lack of this virtue is the leading factor of corruption and every evil act and as it is being abandoned nobody seems to see its importance. As we all know no one is perfect, we all have our peculiarities and we are unique in our way. Being truthful isn't a crime even though some people see it as a crime because of something that might be involved while trying to be truthful.
Sometimes being truthful costs us a lot more than we ever imagined and for this reason, many decide to go the other way around than be truthful. Truthfulness is accompanied by many other good virtues such as humility, integrity, discipline, obedience, and contentment but people don't see this. Truthfulness helps direct one's path and pave the way for one in life, it also contributes to one success in life.
Times without numbers, people have disappointed me when I expected to see the truthful part of them but it's like that part of them doesn't exist. I prefer being told the truth and feeling hurt than being lied to to feel good. Lying to me just for me to feel comfortable isn't something I appreciate, I kicked against the idea strictly but people don't see it that way, they think they are doing one a favor. Truth hurts I know but it's being appreciated when said If everyone can indulge in the habit of speaking the truth and not minding the outcome, our society would have become a better place than it is right now, and all the corrupt acts in our society today would have been reduced if not eradicated.
I once found myself in a situation where I was expecting the concerned person in the whole scenario to tell the truth about the matter to know how to handle the situation in a simpler way to avoid it from escalating but to my surprise, the reverse was the case. The truth I was expecting to hear was hidden and the lie was appreciated instead then I wondered how we would change our world to become a safer place when the truth isn't even appreciated. At that instance, I felt so disappointed in the person and later I was told "The truth is better concealed to protect everyone's interest" he said. I was dumbfounded as he was the same person always preaching about truth and integrity, and then I realized that we humans don't do what we preach.
