Hello friends, today, as we approach the end of another week, we have another good reflection that makes us think about how dependent we are or not on technology, cell phones and computers.
I speak for myself and lately I have been thinking a lot about the time I spend on my cell phone. It is not easy to admit this, but I think I am somewhat dependent, and I admit this because it is a reality when I reflect on my behavior. And the most worrying thing is that my children are also starting to follow the same path and that is when I think I should try to balance things so that they are not so dependent. I have two children and, like every parent, I want the best for them and I know that these technologies are good but when used excessively they are very bad for them. But sometimes I find myself looking at the screen while they talk to me, and I realize that I am not 100% there. And they are already doing the same, it seems that there is no longer that family interaction that should be preserved as a family.
Reflecting carefully, I know that the truth is that cell phones have entered our lives slowly, almost without realizing it, but that nowadays they have created an enormous dependence. At first, it was just for calls or messages and that was what I thought was enough, it was the essential. Then came social media, videos, games, notifications all the time and so many other things that appear almost daily and now it seems that we can't go much time without looking at the screen. It's almost automatic, for example, I find myself doing this, so if there's a moment of pause, I immediately take my phone out. Sometimes I don't even know why, it's just habit, that's why I talk about dependence, I don't even listen to what people say to me sometimes, because I'm so focused on my phone and sometimes on the computer, something similar happens.
I notice the same thing with my children. If I let them, they easily spend an hour or two glued to the tablet or phone and sometimes even longer, and many times they don't even leave the house. Of course, there are days when it's easier to keep them entertained with this, especially when I'm tired or have things to do, but this can't become a habit, because it creates dependence and we lose a lot of time together, which could and should be spent in another, more social way. But then I start to wonder if I'm doing it right, and I don't think so, based on what I said earlier. I feel like we're all losing something, and human connections and personal interconnections are often disappearing. Those moments when we should be more present with each other end up being replaced by endless scrolling or short videos that we don't even remember after watching, because our dependence on them is so great that it's almost like an addiction, and addiction does these things.
Personally, as I've said on several occasions, I'm not against technology. Cell phones are useful, of course they are, and they're part of the evolution of life and society. They help us organize our day, talk to people who are far away, and learn new things. But the problem is when they stop being a tool and start to dominate our habits, they start to absorb us. And honestly, sometimes it really seems like we can't just live in the moment without having our cell phones in our hands. I feel that way, but I don't know if you feel the same way.
In the last few days, I've started trying to change a few things. Small changes that may be small but will certainly make a big difference. I'll give you an example. At mealtimes, there are no more cell phones on the table, neither mine nor theirs. I think this is very important. It should be a family space for personal interactions and non-technological interactions. We try to talk, even if it's about simple but very important things, like finding out how the day was, how school is going, and so many other similar things. I also try to go longer without notifications, or leave my cell phone in another room for a while, even though it seems like I'm missing something during these moments. I try to get used to doing this to control this dependence. I know that sometimes it may seem like little, but I can already see a difference, and this is a journey that takes several steps. We need to relearn how to be alone, or to be with others, without this addiction to screens, every hour and every minute. That's because there has to be a balance.
I think about this topic and my actions and I know that I won't be able to change everything overnight, but I think the first step is to be aware of the problem and face it. And I am, I feel that I can change, and I want to set an example for my children, because they learn more from what they see than from what I say. They have always told me that, for this reason, I have to be able to do it. And if I can be more present, calmer, more attentive, maybe they can too, and personal and family relationships will once again have importance and become habitual and not just spontaneous.

Olá amigos, hoje que estamos quase no fim de mais uma semana temos mais uma boa reflexão que nos faz pensar em como estamos dependentes ou não das tecnologias, dos telemóveis e dos computadores.
Eu falo por mim e ultimamente tenho pensado bastante sobre o tempo que passo ao telemóvel. Não é fácil admitir isto, mas acho que estou um bocado dependente, isso eu admito porque é uma realidade quando faço essa reflexão do meu comportamento. E o mais preocupante é que os meus filhos também já começam a seguir o mesmo caminho e ai é que eu acho que devo tentar equilibrar as coisas para que eles não sejam assim tão dependentes. Tenho dois filhos e, como qualquer pai, quero o melhor para eles e sei que estas tecnologias são boas mas em exagero fazem muito mal a eles. Mas às vezes dou por mim a olhar para o ecrã enquanto eles falam comigo, e percebo que não estou ali a 100%. E eles já fazem o mesmo, parece que já não existe aquela interação familiar que deveria ser preservada como família.
Refletindo bem eu sei que a verdade é que os telemóveis entraram nas nossas vidas devagar, quase sem darmos conta, mas que hoje em dia criaram uma dependência enorme. No início era só para chamadas ou mensagens e era no meu entender o que chegava, era o essencial. Depois vieram as redes sociais, os vídeos, os jogos, as notificações a toda a hora e tantas outras coisas que surgem novas quase diariamente e agora parece que não conseguimos passar muito tempo sem olhar para o ecrã. É quase automático por exemplo eu revejo me nisto assim se há um momento de pausa, tiro logo o telemóvel. Às vezes nem sei bem porquê, é só o hábito, por isso falo em dependência, nem oiço o que me dizem as vezes, de tão concentrado estar no telemóvel e as vezes no computador acontece algo parecido.
Eu com os meus filhos noto o mesmo. Se deixo, estão facilmente uma ou duas horas agarrados ao tablet ou ao telemóvel e as vezes até mais tempo, nem saem de casa muitas das vezes. Claro que há dias em que é mais fácil deixá-los entretidos com isso, especialmente quando estou cansado ou tenho coisas para fazer mas isso não se pode tornar um hábito, porque cria dependência e perdemos muitos momentos juntos, que podiam e deviam ser passados de uma outra forma mais social. Mas depois fico a pensar se estou a fazer bem, e acho que não pelo que disse já anteriormente. Sinto que estamos todos a perder alguma coisa e as ligações humanas, as interligações pessoais estão muitas das vezes a desaparecer. Aqueles momentos em que devíamos estar mais presentes uns com os outros, acabam por ser trocados por scroll infinito ou vídeos curtos que nem nos lembramos depois de ver, porque a nossa dependência já é tão grande que é quase como um vicio e o vicio faz estas coisas.
Pessoalmente como já disse em diversas ocasiões não sou contra a tecnologia. Os telemóveis dão jeito, claro que sim e fazem parte da evolução da vida e da sociedade. Ajudam-nos a organizar o dia, a falar com quem está longe, a aprender coisas novas. Mas o problema é quando deixam de ser uma ferramenta e passam a dominar os nossos hábitos, começam a absorvermo-nos. E sinceramente, às vezes parece mesmo que não conseguimos estar só a viver o momento sem ter o telemóvel na mão, eu sinto isso não sei se vocês sentem o mesmo.
Eu nos últimos dias comecei a tentar mudar algumas coisas. Pequenas mudanças que podem ser pequenas mas que certamente farão muita diferença. Vou dar aqui um exemplo, à hora das refeições já não há telemóveis à mesa nem meus, nem deles isso acho que é muito importante, ai deve de ser um espaço familiar de interações pessoais de convívio pessoal e não tecnológico. Tentamos conversar, mesmo que seja sobre coisas simples, mas muito importantes, saber como correu o dia, saber como vai a escola e tantas outras coisas similares a estas. Eu também ando a tentar estar mais tempo sem notificações, ou deixar o telemóvel noutra divisão por algum tempo apesar de parecer durante esses momentos que algo me faz falta, tento que isso seja algo que me habitue a fazer para controlar essa dependência. Sei que por vezes pode parecer pouco, mas já noto diferença e isto é um caminho de diversas etapas. É preciso reaprender a estar só, ou a estar com os outros, sem esse vício do ecrã, a toda a hora e todo o minuto, isso é porque tem de haver um equilíbrio.
Eu refletindo bem neste tema e nas minhas ações sei que não vou conseguir mudar tudo de um dia para o outro, mas acho que o primeiro passo é estar consciente do problema e enfrentar o mesmo. E eu estou, sinto que posso mudar, e quero dar o exemplo aos meus filhos, porque eles aprendem mais com o que veem do que com o que eu digo sempre me disseram isso por esse facto tenho de conseguir. E se eu conseguir estar mais presente, mais calmo, mais atento, talvez eles também consigam, e as relações pessoais e em família voltem a ter importância e sejam habituais e não somente espontâneas.
