Hi guys,
Welcome to my blog. As usual this is my entry into the hive learners weekly initiative. Today I'll be talking about lessons learnt outside of the school environs.
For the longest time people have debated on the type of things students need to learn when they are in school. I usually think that this argument comes from the cultural side of Africa. No mater how much we argue, we much also accept the fact that education is something we have adopted from the western country and as such we are also inheriting thr culture of a different society.
That's why I best believe that the western movies that we watch have a lasting impact on how we think in the long run and we either accept it or deny it but its facts. A typical example is sex education. Before I watched sex education I used to think about sex or things related to sex in a different way. I didnt care about knowing a lot about it cause I thought it was a different scope of life for people who are sexually active. After watching sex education I came out with a different mindset which I still use up until now.
Yes, there are a lot of things that we tend to learn in school but most of those things stay in the classroom and will either help you get a job or help you become enlightened. Education was only meant to enlighten you and not to lift you out of poverty.
One thing that I have learnt out of school and will also be proud of is competitions aren't always necessary. Don't get me wrong, in this day and age we are all in one kind of competition or the other. When you apply for a job and are called for an interview with other people it becomes a contest to be better than the others so you can get the job. There is competition everywhere.
One thing that school has made sure to instill in us is the art of competition or trying to be better than your peers in all aspects of class and that it translates to your daily life. There are people who tend to buy things because someone else has it. There are people who always want to be the latest people to have something because they view it as a competition.
One thing that I have learnt about life is that we are all here for a short while and doing something simply because of others is not the way to go about life. I have a friend who is exactly this way. He goes out of hi way to lie to us about the things he has because he sees us as competition. When someone gets a better thing than he has he makes remarks like "if he wanted it he would go get it". Well, I get that its just the way he is but I am not all that and as much as I like to use the best ot everything, I am definitely not one to want to compete with people over what I have and what I don't have.
Life is not a competition and we must live within our means and as long as its working for you it shouldn't matter what someone else things.
