The term age is just a number has always been a topic of controversy. From what I hear and from the conversations that I’ve had with people, the term age is just a number only comes into play when the situation will favour them when they use that word.
Recently, I came across a post on X and in that post, the writer said “A 35-year-old unmarried man is getting old according to society but if that same man dies tomorrow the same society will say he was too young to die”. This brings me to the conclusion that we only use this term when the term favours us.
Now, the topic of relationships and age has always and will always be a subject of debate. According to the African culture, a man is supposed to be older than a woman when it comes to relationship and marriage. Some cultures even go as far as giving the age gap that should be between the couple.
Recently, a woman where I work commented how she wants her man to be a type of way else she’ll overpower him. I don’t have a problem with her way of thinking cause she was probably brought up in that type of home.
I can sit here and say that age doesn’t matter to me when it comes to a relationship but then I’d be lying. Am not one who cares a lot about age cause as I grow I’ve come to realise that maturity and age are two different things. The common misconception that we have is someone who has been on this earth longer than you is more knowledgeable or because he or she has more experience then he or she is more mature. Maturity in itself comes with how you think.

For me, I don’t think one needs to be necessarily old to be a mature thinker. Maturity comes as you go through different stages of your life.
Now with the topic of age and relationships, I think we all have what works for us. A lot of women will want their husbands to be older than them cause according to them they know how to take care of women more; most times I think this is only an excuse to say that they have more money than their age mates. They say they are more responsible but it all comes to money.
For me, I like what I like. I have choices that might seem weird to most people but then I don’t like to talk about them. One thing that I’d like to say is that the fact that you the guy is older than your girl or husband doesn’t automatically mean she’s going to respect you.
I think age doesn’t matter though we all have our specs. As much as I’ll say age doesn’t matter then we do add the age gap you’ll want your partner to be or you can take when you’re looking for a wife or husband or even a relationship.
At the end of the day, society is not the one going to live or bear with the choices you have made. If you follow what society thinks it’ll mess you up.
