Well, after looking at this topic the first word that came to mind was joy. I still remember it like it was yesterday. When my nephew took his first steps. It looked like a lot of people in the house didn’t believe it until they saw it with their own eyes. Well, as they say, seeing is believing so I don’t blame them. If I was in their shoes I would have doubted too.
It happens that my senior brother got married just after he finished school. Something which a lot of us didn’t expect. Well, it was not something which happened in the house normally so we had to be surprised. At that particular moment, I was not at home to witness the joy of the marriage. It was the same thing as I was not there when his wife gave birth to their first child.
But then I was there when the second baby came. This time around we came back home on vacation so it was very hard to miss this moment. Before we could get home she was already in the labour room trying to bring forth their second child. Fingers crossed and with a lot of prayers and hope she gave birth to their second boy. This time around I was there, I was excited but the joy was short-lived.
It looked like she had complications while giving birth. It happened that the baby didn’t die but it was fragile. The worrying thing about this was that the baby’s head was so soft. It was soft and big too. We all didn’t think the baby will make it.
This made me grow fond of the boy as I had to check on him every day. Well, little by little he recovered. His head decreased in size, the softness was nowhere to be found and you could see that the baby was no more in pain.

Since it took a long time for this child to get used to normal stuff we all thought it will take time for the baby to walk. Well, it turned out this baby had other plans. I was playing with him one day when he suddenly tried to walk.
I didn’t like the idea as I thought he was forcing himself. Not that we were not training him to walk, we were but we didn’t expect him to try and walk after such a scare.
I didn’t pay attention to what he was trying to do but the boy was persistent. He wanted to walk hence I had to allow him to try. With so much joy I screamed his name. He barely walked on his own as most babies don’t walk properly on the first attempt, but what I saw was a walk of hope.
We run out looking for his mom and dad. When I told them they said I was lying. They didn’t believe their baby could start walking after what he went through. Well, I asked them to come take a look.
When we got to the baby he was seated, he was obviously tired from all the walking attempts it did. I wanted him to walk but then he refused. His parents started saying I was lying but just as they were about to leave he tried getting up once again. To their surprise, he walked.

To my surprise, he didn’t struggle like on the first attempt. You should have been there to see the wide smile on the faces of his parents. They couldn’t contain their joy. They hugged and laughed with the baby all day long. When mom and dad came back from work they forced the baby to walk in front of them and they even looked more excited than the boy’s parents hehe.
I might sound selfish but I am happy I was able to see his first steps first. I know it’s the joy of every mom to see the first steps of her baby but then I don’t know why I am still very excited at the remembrance of this story.
Have you experienced the first steps of a baby? How did it make you feel? If it’s not your baby are you happy you saw the baby do the first steps before his or her mom?
Thanks for reading.
