Wow, as long as you are a student or was a student, you have definitely been there, where exactly you ask? Well Its none other place, than the treacherous abyss of an impromptu test, a terrifying experience where hands tremble and you subconsciously and desperately plead with your brain to not fail you at this crucial moment. A moment of terror.
Now imagine strolling into what you would call your classroom just like every other day, no initial announcement of an impending doom. You walked in, blissfully unaware of the Chao lurking in the form of a much dreaded impromptu test. A moment of power and authority the lecturer announces using those dreadful phrase with a mischievous grin , "ok class tear a sheet of paper, we are having a test" your eye opened in terror desperately wishing that you had heard wrong, a surprise that has found a way to shook the whole of your very existence and it doesn't taste good, not in the slightest.
Hoping it was a bad joke or even a prsnk, here comes those phrases again in a more serious and resounding tone, " I said tear a sheet of paper, we are having a test !" . At that very moment your heart sinks faster than the titanic, you go into panic mode, with a touch a adrenaline you muster up the courage ready to engage in a battle without the luxury of an armour, a test to be written without any form of preparation. In a state of overdrive, you desperately rush to the deepest part of your memory vault trying to recall every ounce of information available, one problem though this vault is well guarded by mysterious creatures called "Procrastination" . They are definitely denying access, you fed them well, trained them so well, day in, day out , if only you knew.
With hands shaking, a display of parkinsonism without parkinson disease, you go through the question, hoping to see any sign of familiarity, but lo and behold the question looked more like lines of alien codes than a proper language. You looked around hoping that everyone else were in the same predicament as you, you realized that you are alone on this journey. In your confused state you started a monologue, questioning your life choices, "if only I didnt binge watch that series" , "if only I took time to study more" , " if only I didn't skip classes "
With thoughts running through your head and time ticking away, in a well ventilated room and a cool weather you start to sweat, you rest your head on the desk hoping for a mysterious inspiration. It never came, the silent room became a battlefield of scribbling pen, flipping sheets and rubbing erasers.
Things are not looking good, you glance at the clock, only to realized that you have just a few seconds more. You scribbled furiously, making wild guesses on question you can't even interprete, you begged the universe for a miracle. It a race against time, and this time you are definitely losing.
The test ends, "submit" the lecturer said. If only I had studied more, these questions would be growling at my feet, I had the time, but I procrastinated and didn't . Yeah, it was a much needed lesson which on course was learnt the hard way.
May the odds ever be in our favour my fellow comrade in the battles of education.
