Hello beautiful people of Hive, it's great to have you on my blog 🤗🤗 🥳🥳
Hope you are all having a beautiful day? Welcome to another edition of our weekly engagement.
Education as defined by the dictionary is
the process of imparting skill, knowledge and judgement either formally or informally.
From centuries ago when education was introduced into society, it has been evolving with the advancement of knowledge, technology and produced many elites and successful people in the society. This led to an increase in the hunger for education, and many devised measures to make it accessible to many around the world, even in remote villages and towns.
When it comes to higher education like the one we have in our tertiary institutions, quality education is only accessible to those who can afford it while those who can't, go with a lesser one or none at all.
This is the reason for the invention of Scholarship schemes to help intelligent but financially constrained people have access to quality education and so far, this has been of immense aid to so many.
Thousands of people the world over who have become successful Medical Doctors, Legal Practitioners, Politicians through scholarships.
But do you think the bar can be raised higher for higher education to become free for all? Moreso in today's world?
Well, I think that naturally it can because every nation has enough resources to make higher education free for their citizens but some of those in political offices would not let that happen because of their greed, wrong judgement and uninspiring leadership.
I am cock sure that this matter of free education has been brought up countless times in political meetings and might even have almost been passed into law but the aforementioned things and more have hindered that from ever happening.
If education is made free, what are we likely to expect?
This will be it and by "it" I mean the moment this is passed into law in any country, especially my country Nigeria, millions of education-hungry souls will congregrate at the gate of every Tertiary institution because finally, they wouldn't have to pay huge sums of money to go to school, they would be able to get quality education without paying a dime but their determination and passion.
How will the Teachers teach after that?
Well, still having my country Nigeria in focus, if the Lectures are paid, we wouldn't have any trouble because they will deliver. The standard of teaching will improve considerably but if they are not, then you can bet that with all the students hungry to learn, there would be on one to teach them.
This is proved by the recent 11 months strike the Academic Staff of Universities Union (ASUU)in Nigeria embarked on because the Federal Goverment didn't fulfill the promise of paying them their salaries.
However, I still keep my hope alive about a free higher education and in view of that, no one should be denied quality education because it's the right of every human.
Till next time...
