Injuries; physical, psychological though not planned but can cause a lot of pain and damage to body and soul and this topic brings laughter and a little but of caution to my mind.
I remember a certain incident that happened to me in school that taught me a very hard lesson about always being careful and not being overly perplexed about anything.
It was a very chilly Monday morning and I was preparing for lectures. If you are a Nigerian University student, you will understand when your Lecturer says "You all must submit your assignments by 8am or else, I won't take it and you will score 0 in your Continuous Assesment (CA)" then you know that this is a do or die affair and if you default, you'll need a an angel to touch the heart of that Lecturer from failing you in your CA.
Those words from one of my Lecturers were ringing in my head like a bell since Friday the previous week till that faithful Monday morning.
I was almost done preparing and it was 7:30am when a giant wind blew and rain started falling heavily and i didn't have an umbrella.
I felt I was dreaming. I was performing some algebraic calculations on my mind as to how long it might take for the rain to stop so I can quickly rush to my junction and take a motorcycle straight to class so I can submit my assignment to my Course Rep (Class Captain)
But the rainfall didn't reduce, infact it increased so heavily that I had to forgo my previous calculations and jump into it that way... my CA score was at stake here and I didn't want to take any chances.
The Fall

I got to the road and beckoned on a motorcycle rider to stop. I was in so much hurry that I didn't know when I missed a step and fell down by the road side. I couldn't get up for like 3 minutes because again, I was thinking it was a dream then the sharp pain in my leg made me have a second thought about dreaming and when the motorcycle rider helped me get up. I checked my assignment papers immediately which was almost ruined by the rain and fall but with some adjustments and wiping, it was okay.
I was in so much pain I had to hold myself from crying in public, my knee bone had dislocated but that didn't mean much to me as submitting my assignment did at the moment.
Finally I got to the school gate, alighted from the motorcycle, limping and running still in the rain and when I finally got to my class thinking my Course Rep had left already and thinking how to plead with him to take mine at 8:25am only to find out that my Lecturer couldn't make it due to the rain.

My course Rep wasn't even ready, a lot of my course mates were just starting to do their assignment, some even waited for the rain to stop finally before coming to submit theirs. I had never felt so unwise and ashamed like did.
So I went through all what I went through- getting soaked in the rain with a dislocated knee bone, some scratches and my almost ruined assignment for nothing? 🥺🥺🥺
I learnt from that day that nothing will get me so worried and scared again. I will handle emergencies and deadlines (which I call lifelines) with calmness and wisdom.
Till we meet again....
