Electricity has been a very vital part of our lives. It lights our home and the streets during the night, making it easy to see each other and move around during the dark. It let us cook without using fire, and give us cold drinks from refrigerators that also preserved the our food from decaying. It also made washing and drying our clothes way easier and less time consuming using washing machines. We can only watch our favorite TV shows, browse the internet and publish our content all thanks to electricity. Even Hive and all the blockchain technologies that are available can only exist because the computers runs them uses electricity.
Thanks to electricity, we can all experience this comfort in our lives and have taken it for granted but there were times that it would be cut from us maybe due to a storm that damages the power lines or electric plants being on maintenance and that completely turns our world upside down, making it seem like time runs slower and every hours passed to be a torture which makes me think how people in the past have even managed to live. Every now and then, power outages happens and sometimes, it happens on the time that we really needs it the most.
It was the summer of 2020, during the rise of COVID-19 pandemic. Due to the threat of the disease, various lockdowns has been implemented to limit the amount of people that can go outside and establishments made for mass gatherings were closed such as pools an beaches so the thought of relieving the heat of the season through soaking your body in the bodies of water was not an option and spend the entire summer season at home. The only consolation I have is that I can stay in the front of the fan to reduce the heat and enjoy cold refreshments from time to time so I don't really think that the situation can be anything worst than what I have but that was where I was wrong.
It was already afternoon during that time but the temperature was still very hot and were just getting ready for our afternoon snack with some Fried Banana Rolls and Mango smoothie for refreshments. I'm really looking forward to the smoothie since the mango that we will use was of very good quality and already smells really good even when not peeled yet. So after we finished frying the banana rolls, we proceed with preparing for the smoothie. The preparation was a very easy process. On the Blender, just put some water, milk, yogurt, lemon juice and ice for the frothy texture. We also add some some left over banana's since we ran out of the spring roll wrappers and after that all we need was to use the blender until it was smooth. After that we just need to add the mango last and blend it again and we now we have the Mango smoothie or how it was supposed to be.
But during the process, a sudden power outage took place, causing the blender to stop working. The banana and the ice was still pretty much solid and we have not yet add the mango and without the electricity to power the blender, this simple task of mixing this ingredients has become impossible to do so we just put the mango in the mix and eat it as it is. It still somewhat taste good because the fruits were fresh but it still left us unsatisfied. After all, the goal of the smoothie is to make a refreshment with texture similar to an ice cream but this power outage really ruined the experience add to the fact that it becomes way hotter now that the fans are not working and mosquitoes started to fly around freely to bite us when they have the opportunity.
On times like this when we realize how important electricity was in our lives that even the simplest task of blending would turn to be impossible without the electricity that allows the appliances to move and it's not like you can do anything to fix the situation. The only thing that we can do during this time was to wait until it was fixed.
Using other source of Electricity
Just something that I want to add that recently, I have tried to buy a rechargeable fan through solar energy. It was smaller compared to regular fans but was still quite powerful specially for a single person use that can last from 6-8 hours. It also has a USB port so I can use it to charge my phone or anything that can be charge using USB cable so I can charge them even during power outages. Soon I plan to add more solar powered products including generators not only to be prepared when there were blackouts but also to save electricity bills. This was also was eco friendly since it does not rely on fossil fuels so using this would lessen the pollution in the environment.
