Hello there, it’s been chilly here! For some months now, we have been enjoying the good, the bad, and the ugly brought about by the rainy season we are presently in weather-wise in my society. May I let you know that here in my country Nigeria, we have two seasons which are: the rainy and the dry season. Although, we kind of still have some weather conditions that can fit in the middle of both and they have their respective characteristics. For example, the Harmattan season which occurs during the dry season has a colder temperature attached to it, unlike the conventional dry season. Back during my days at elementary school, I knew we had and even memorized the months belonging to each season. But, unfortunately, climate change has changed things a bit. That s not the story for today, maybe next time.
Like I said earlier, we are live (as in like a football match) in the rainy season. Since the beginning of the month, there has been hardly a day or two when at least a drizzle does not occur. Well, that jinx kind of got broken because it has not done its usual in about 3 days.
How Is It Going For Me ?
Well, what shall the son of man like me do? Stop it? Absolutely not! It’s the season to rain, so – so be it! All we humans have to do is streamline our lives to it. For me, even though I am home I do go out almost every day. And in my country, this season is one where things add monetary weight to the signs you see looking at the clouds. The highest of them all is the transport system. At any sight of, even a line, of dark, gloomy clouds, transport fares begin to add weight whether the rain falls or not. If it falls, that is going to be another economy entirely. And I tell you, the fares could go up by 100% at worst! FYI, so as not to be stranded, hold double the normal fares.
During this time, it is generally known that anyone who fixes an outdoor occasion needs to pray earnestly to the god of rain they know for a clear day. Else, the shade of rain that may show up at such a person's doorstep could be one that is accompanied by the fierce wind which may uncover your tent. You may wonder why I am concerned about tents. Actually, my mum has an event rental business which includes tents too. So, I do join in the prayers for a clear if we’ve got a rental outside.
Coming back home, everything you have got to do must be done quickly in conjunction with prayers of course. Especially outdoor chores like washing clothes, spraying the bushes, etc. That clothes now, most times, could go in unending circles because some new clothes are dirty while the ones that have been washed have not gotten dried yet due to lower sun intensity and/or the downpour. Also, the inside of an average house is humid and cold so less transpiration occurs.
Generally, it comes with its abundant availability of water in the environment, especially for those who may not have a steady or close water supply. The rain does great deeds here. For me too, it has relieved my fetching from the well for which I am obviously glad.
Lastly but funnily, these times are hard for the singles amongst us. We have only got our pillows and bedsheets (the two) to hold warmth and cuddle ... nothing more😩. But we will pull through it like we used to. Alright?
This is my entry for the Hive Learners week 18 edition 1 which you can check out here.
