Here's to looking back at New Years Eve
Looking back at Dec 31st, 2024 it is hard to say that it was memorable. It has only been a week and its faded like a blur. I think that happens as I get older. Every day has a lot of the same things in it. Walk the dog. Do home chores. Read and Write on Actifit/Hive. Read my Bible and so on.
New Years eve was really not much of an exception. However, I did go over to my nephew's house for a nice dinner, my two sons actually went there with me, so that meant socializing with family
After that it was time to come back home and watch a movie with the family. My wife likes horror movies so we ended up streaming 5 Nights at Freddies. My wife because she likes horror movies, my kids because they used to spend many hours on the game, myself because everyone else wanted it.
Then 11:45pm came around and it was time to find a countdown on the TV. This year it was actually harder than in years prior so we ended up watching a Las Vegas broadcast of New Years Eve festivities.
12:00am rolled around we cheered, there were some people who set off firecrackers or honked horns around the town, then I chatted with my oldest son for a while and we finished off the movie.
Just a very typical New Years Eve
It was all rather routine as far as New Years Eve's go.
So, was it special?
That's a tough question
There wasn't anything stand out about the night. There wasn't anything unusual or groundbreaking about the night. Just a typical New Years Eve. However, when I think about it for a moment : It was time spent with family. It was a time for reflection on the year gone by and to dream about the New Year coming. It was everyone taking an evening out to say "Your important for me to be with"
That's important!
In a world where everything to shift from moment to moment. Where nothing seems certain and ever changing. It's nice to have a routine of spending time with family on special occassions. It's nice to feel like a part of something. So, while this year may not be memorable, the fact that every New Year is spent with family is something I'll cherish.
A couple other take home thoughts
Two things did stick out as memorable about the evening though. One thing that was available but probably shouldn't be and another thing that wasn't available but probably should have been.
First: FMovies. My nephew has a website called FMovies on his TV and it has pretty much every new movie or recent movie available for streaming. Seemed like a very useful site so I considered using it when I got home. I mean there are lots of movies I'd love to watch but I'm still waiting for them to come to Netflix. I went to FMovies and was going to stream a movie but it wanted my credit card..even though the site said it was free.
Hmm.... Now if a website (people) don't care about the property of the movie companies what makes me think they will care about protecting my credit card information? In the end I just passed and thought I can do without watching the newest movies if it means not stealing from the movie companies.
Second : When it came time to count down the New Year the local Canadian broadcast company DIDN'T have a New Years show. It seems that they cancelled due to budget cuts. I remember many past CBC productions on New Years Eve and it was kind of sad that we didn't have one this year. When a Canadian has to watch an American New Year celebration on TV that seems just a little bit off.
Overall though that's my take on Dec 31, 2023.
Wishing all the best to all the other #HiveLearners in 2024
...and also thinking this was a tough prompt to respond to.
...Sometimes a day is just a day (or is it 😜)
