When I got the OK to join the Hive Learners I was eager to get my first posts done. Now my first post was going to be on the importance of tags and hashtags but I am still not very good with them.
However, there was a contest going on:
Looks can be deceiving
and that sounded like a lot of fun to write about. So, at 4am when the contest started I got behind the keyboard and started typing. I came up with a post I was proud of :
@terganftp/the-goddess-the-angel-the
and was super happy when I had Three different curators come by and upvote me! Horray! I even had LazyPanda come by and give me an upvote. Horray!
Then I re-read the rules of the contest.
I was supposed to use two different hashtags !!
I'm putting their names in an image so I don't call them by mistake.
As a cautionary note to other new users. Please don't make the same mistake that I did. Those hashtags are very important. Without them the curators have to work harder to find your post and your way less likely to get noticed.
Usually I don't care if I get noticed or not because I write for fun and the curation is just a happy bonus. However, when I'm trying to show the group that I can be a useful contributor forgetting to get noticed kind of defeats the purpose.
I think the hashtags # go in the body of the post while tags go in the tagline. I think you take the spaces out of the name of communities to get noticed in different communities if your post fits there but not entirely sure.
Also, to any veteran users.... What should I do if I forget again? I was thinking of editing the post to add the hashtags...but then everyone I mentioned would get pinged again and I didn't want to be seen as begging for votes?
Ideas anyone?
Thanks!
