When I first heard about old houses , I was very astonished. I wondered how can one leave his parents in old houses when they are obliged to serve them most. On debunking further about old houses that the real concept of old houses is not to leave your old parents in old age houses instead of taking care but it is a shelter for those debilitated and fragile old people who don’t have anyone nearest to them to take care of them. This was a virtue-based concept but many viles have converted into vice(sorry if anyone of you support it)
A child is born with no language and power. He is given both by his guardians. He is taught to speak,to achieve strength and to execute power. His needs and wishes ,as much as possible, are fulfilled. He is pampered with available resources and he is cosseted with infinite love.
All this is done without waiting any favour in return.
Parents struggle whole life to take care of their kids. They educate them,they feed them,they provide them with every accessible commodity and they protect them with any external harm. Parents love their kids more than they love themselves.
But is it okay that same kid doesn’t treat his parents in the same way they did to him. They protected him,they cared him and they fed him. Is it okay if he doesn’t shelter them in his house or send them somewhere else to be taken care of.?
Retirement houses are good . They are good to take care of those who are in their dottage and have no one to look after them. These houses are good to rehabilitate weak old people. But those who have families behind should not be left on mercy of professionals of those retirement houses.
It is good to allot retirement houses but the resident of those must be those who have no one left behind.
Subcontinent India’s culture usually doesn’t favour and promote retirement house tradition. People love spending family time and they want to live in joint family where everyone lives together, taking care of each other and fighting each others as well. This family structure forms basis of social system.If it is destroyed whole social system will be destroyed.
So I totally discourage the concept of retirement houses for those who have family. It is mandatory responsibility of family to take care of old members of family. These members are honour of the family. They are those who are the reason behind whole family. They must not be deprived of their rights. The look after of old people should be responsibility of children and family . Even I believe that those who do not follow this family structure should be punished .
