It’s funny and inspirational how we dream of so many things when we are kids. We still dream but sometimes our dreams are more realistic if we compare to when we knew nothing. While growing up I was obsessed with being a pilot. I remember that was in my kindergarten days when I wanted to be a pilot. Then, I wanted to be a doctor. I even at a point wanted to be an actor. Hehe, that’s a funny one because I cannot even act to save my life.
Before I completed high school, I wanted to be a pharmacist which looked achievable for maybe due to lack of effort from my side, I couldn’t get the necessary grades to study pharmacy. I am studying biochemistry right now which can still give me a pathway to become a doctor.
If I am being totally honest, I would love to be a forensic expert or forensic scientist. For real, I just love how the movies make forensic science seem like a lot of fun. I love to uncover mysteries and so I binge watch a lot of crime shows. I know how they solve some of their cases is probably unrealistic but it still gets me intrigued.

I studied forensic toxicology as an elective in my third year and that made me have more interest. This semester I am studying forensic science as one of my courses and although it is quite broad, it’s been fun so far. Getting to read and learn about the OJ Simpon’s case. We talked about trace evidences and how some evidences were mismanaged and how they could have been done correctly. It’s a really interesting case for those that want to read.
There’s still a path for me to get that dream but I am not sure if I will be pursuing that. I don’t think a lot of people pursue a career in forensics in my country Ghana. Even if they do, there wouldn’t be a lot of technology and opportunities available. It would be nice but our countries do not make these kind of career or courses interesting.
I just admire how the forensic scientist put pieces together to solve crimes and uncertainties.
I wouldn’t want to do a job or pursue a career I will not necessarily enjoy and so I very much hope I am able to pursue a career I have some passion for. Medicine, pharmacy and forensic sciences are some of the areas I have interest in pursuing a career.
So basically, my dream career of being a pilot cannot be pursued right now for maybe a reason or two. I have first of all lost interest in that and I am not sure the courses I am pursuing can help me in that direction.
There are a lot of people who do not see their dreams materialize but they end up doing important things. Some end up doing things they do not like but others end up enjoying whatever they end up doing. I have read a few entries already where some people are not pursuing their dream careers but are enjoying it.
In conclusion, I would be glad to pursue one of my dream careers but even if I do not pursue any of these, I would still love to do something that I end up enjoying.
