The current wave of socioeconomic and political upheaval in Nigeria is a sign of very negative omens for the future of the nation of Nigeria in terms of peace, unity, progress, and ongoing existence.
Even the most careless person would be astounded by the quantity of resources that have been wasted over the course of the previous and present years by the political class, irrespective of the wealth of resources and talents the nation possesses.
Without decisive action on the part of the government, not only will it be difficult for the nation to survive in the long run, but the country's demise could be gradual, ongoing, and devastating. There is little hope for the country's recovery because the political elite that is in power at all levels of government has practically run it into the ground.
Scope of the Problem
The government is unable to fulfill the basic commitment of the social compact, which is to protect the lives and property of the people. This is because the government has failed.
First and foremost, the military forces of the government are no longer capable of discharging their historic responsibility of protecting the government because they have become so tainted with corruption and criminal activity. If they cannot protect the government/ruling class, how much can we guarantee our safety.
The currency has lost a lot of its value as result of accumulation without commensurate production, debt slavery, elites flaunting their wealth in the midst of widespread deprivation, ongoing importation of petroleum products, and the undermining of domestic labour in the refining of petroleum products. It is a national embarrassment when what has to be done is ignored in favour of more educated forms of self-interest.
It is only in a failed nation and a failed economy where a consumer item like cars and electronics that will naturally wear out and reduce in value over the years, does the inverse, which is the increase in value. People are now selling cars they got for 2 million for 3 to 4 million years later.
Compounding everything is a failed leadership. Today, the nation is characterised as having an antagonistic sovereignty and not having a national government. It is a nation in which leaders gain pleasure in lying.
We Can Only Hope
This time around, there is a chance that we won't have as much luck. In order to prevent it from completely collapsing, now is the time to take action, and you should do so quickly.
In light of the current situation, it is impossible for me to say whether things will get better or worse in the near future. However, changes can take place if a new leader is chosen for the nation who has aspirational goals for the country. But that is not a guarantee, we can only hope.
In the future, I believe that Nigeria will become more competitive and productive if it invests in its infrastructure, improves security, education, empowers its citizens, strengthens trade, transportation, and employment, and encourages productivity among its citizens. Despite its current state, Nigeria has the potential to improve.
