First thing we need to do is change the image mode from Black and White to colour. Go to 'image' then 'mode' and select 'RGB color'
Go to your layers palette and duplicate layer (right mouse click on your layer)
also turn off your layer lock if its still on.

Lets call it colour layer
You should now have 2 layers in your layers palette.
Now select your paintbrush tool.
Now go to the box above layers, it says 'normal' as default. Select 'color' down nr the bottom of the dropdown menu.
Then change the opacity to about 70% (to the right of the last menu you selected)
Next choose the colour you wish to use to tone part of your image by clicking on the colour swatch (tools bottom left)
Its a good idea to google a similar image to get the right colour. I downloaded an image of sweetcorn, opened it in photoshop, then used the colour picker to find the right shade.
Now use your paintbrush (should still be selected) to fill in the colour
You can change the paintbrush size.
Then do the same for any other colour you want to use.
Here is the finished image... Ive not quite got the green colour right on this 1 but it was my first attempt.
