I am a doctor. Besides, getting a monthly salary, I am getting something else from my dealings with the patients. Constant reminders!! Their illnesses remind me how blessed I am! Their stories increase my gratefulness/gratitude to my Creator!

A 33-year-old (younger than me) Omani patient came to me today. It was not his first visit. He visited me on the 14th of April this year. That time he came with giddiness and dizziness along with pain and numbness in his left upper limb. He was a bit obese person with hypertension, dyslipidemia and uncontrolled diabetes mellitus. He got all the three well-known and non-communicable diseases at this young age!! During that visit, his blood sugar was quite high. I gave him some medication and told him to go to a higher centre.

Today he visited with pain in his left shoulder joint for the last couple of days. However, today I came to know that, a week after his last visit to me, he got a stroke with left-sided paralysis of his body! Luckily, he is recovering from the stroke symptoms pretty fast following strict control of his co-morbidities. Now he is on physiotherapy. As he is getting well from his paralysis, he is feeling more pain in his left shoulder.

His shoulder pain may be related to his diabetes because the frozen shoulder is a painful disease condition found in diabetic patients more often. Or, maybe his shoulder pain is pretty old from some other disease processes but he couldn’t perceive the pain due to the paralysis of that side of his body. Now as his paralysis is taking off, he is feeling the pain.

Anyway, I gave some symptomatic management to him.

Although I am a bit older, unlike him, I am healthy and free from HTN, DM, DLP & stroke, Alhamdulillah, and Alhamdulillah and Alhamdulillah.
