I've been going through my photos folder on my computer recently. I've been coming across some real gems, but passing over this one tonight, I had to stop and share it. If nothing else, for me to sit down and look at it and think about it for a few minutes.
I was not a reader as a kid. Yeah, I read once in a while, but it wasn't common for me. Then I found "Dune". Even as a non-reader, I blew through it in about two weeks. I was enthralled. Shortly after, I grabbed a copy of "Messiah" and got through that in about a week. The day before I finished Messiah, I went and purchased a copy of "Children of Dune" knowing I'd be ready for the next book shortly. Once I started "Children" (Friday night), the book barely left my hands until I was done with it Sunday afternoon. I was so obsessed with the story that my wife and I even named our firstborn after a character from the book.
So yeah, seeing this shot reminded me of some of that excitement I felt reading through this series the first time. Sadly, I don't have this particular set anymore, so I rely on pictures like this to bring those feeling back up.
Have you ever read anything that completely overtook your life? Has a story ever altered your worldview and changed how you see your place in the world? I'd love to hear about it!
