After a person is delivered from demonic oppression or influence, the next most important step is preservation. Many people experience momentary breakthroughs but fall back into bondage because they fail to guard their deliverance with spiritual vigilance.
Jesus warns us in Matthew 12:43–45:
“When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none.
Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished.
Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first…”
This scripture teaches a sober truth: the enemy checks back. Deliverance is not just about casting out demons—it is also about filling the house (your heart, mind, and life) with the Word of God, righteous living, and the presence of the Holy Spirit.
HOW TO GUARD YOURSELF AFTER DELIVERANCE
Constant Fellowship with the Word
Let the Word of God dwell in you richly. Your spirit must be nourished daily. Study, meditate, and speak the Word. Your freedom is rooted in the truth you know (John 8:32).Prayer and Fasting
These are not just religious activities. They help maintain spiritual sensitivity and keep your spirit man in control over the flesh. Jesus said, “This kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.” (Matt. 17:21)Be Filled with the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is the seal of our redemption (Eph. 1:13). Invite Him into every area of your life and ask Him to fill every vacuum that was once occupied by evil influences.Fellowship with the Brethren
Isolation is dangerous. The early Church grew strong because they continued in the apostles’ doctrine and in fellowship (Acts 2:42). Find a Bible-believing church and stay planted.Guard Your Mind
The battlefield is in the mind. Fill your thoughts with whatever is pure, noble, just, and praiseworthy (Phil. 4:8). Avoid polluted content, environments, and conversations.Shut Every Door You Once Opened
Whatever gave the enemy access before—anger, bitterness, fornication, occultism, fear, drugs, or disobedience—must now be permanently shut. Renounce those sins and never return to them.
PRAYER OF PRESERVATION
"Father, I thank You for delivering me from the kingdom of darkness and bringing me into the kingdom of Your dear Son. I ask You, Lord, to fill every part of my being with Your Spirit. Teach me to walk in Your ways. Help me to say no to sin, and yes to righteousness. Let Your Word become my shield and my guide. I resist every plan of the enemy to draw me back, and I declare that I am free and free indeed, in Jesus’ name. Amen."
