The journey of the Christian faith does not end at salvation. It begins there. After we receive the life of Christ, the next call is sanctification — to live a life set apart, holy, and pleasing unto God.
“For this is the will of God, even your sanctification…” — 1 Thessalonians 4:3
Many believers experience the joy of salvation but fall into frustration because they do not actively guard their spiritual growth. Just as a newborn baby must be fed, cleaned, and nurtured to grow into maturity, so must the believer walk daily in purity, discipline, and spiritual awareness.
Why Sanctification Matters
The devil is constantly seeking whom he may devour (1 Peter 5:8), and his major targets are those who have escaped his grip. He waits for moments of weakness, compromise, or spiritual laziness to re-enter a life that was once delivered.
That’s why the Bible warns:
“When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man… he says, I will return into my house from whence I came out... and the last state of that man is worse than the first.” — Matthew 12:43–45
To avoid this backsliding, we must be intentional about maintaining a sanctified life.
4 Keys to Maintaining Sanctification:
- Guard Your Heart
“Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.” — Proverbs 4:23
Your heart is the control room of your life. Be mindful of what you watch, listen to, or allow to influence your thinking.
- Commit to Daily Renewal
“Be transformed by the renewing of your mind…” — Romans 12:2
Spend time in God’s Word and prayer daily. Don’t feed your spirit once a week and expect victory over daily temptations.
- Stay in the Fellowship of Believers
“Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together…” — Hebrews 10:25
Isolation breeds weakness. Surround yourself with godly friends, mentors, and a community that will strengthen your walk.
- Resist the Devil Actively
“Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” — James 4:7
Don't negotiate with temptation. Don't keep pet sins. Put on the whole armor of God and resist every whisper of compromise.
Sanctification Is a Journey
You may fall along the way. You may feel discouraged sometimes. But don’t give up. Righteousness is your inheritance. Holiness is your calling. And the Holy Spirit is your Helper.
“Faithful is He that calleth you, who also will do it.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:24
Prayer Declaration:
Lord Jesus, I receive grace to walk in sanctification. I reject every old habit, hidden sin, and compromise. I declare that I am washed, justified, and sanctified by the Spirit of God. Help me to grow in holiness daily and reflect your glory, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
