Greetings everyone! I'm excited to share my debut post in the Wednesday Walk Community. As I embrace a healthier lifestyle, I look forward to sharing more outdoor adventures with you all in the near future! 🖐
As the year draws to a close and the stress of daily work routines begins to mount, there's no better way to unwind and reconnect with nature than with a leisurely stroll through a tranquil nature reserve. With a handful of leave days to clear before they expire, my wife and I decided to seize the opportunity to escape the clutches of our work schedules and embrace the beauty of the great outdoors. Singapore may be small, but there's always a hidden gem waiting to be discovered, and our latest adventure led us to the remarkable Thomson Nature Park 😍
Discovering Thomson Nature Park
Nestled to the east of the Central Catchment Nature Reserve (CCNR), between Old Upper Thomson Road and Upper Thomson Road, Thomson Nature Park is a true testament to Singapore's commitment to preserving its natural heritage 👍
Spanning an expansive 50 hectares, this lush green sanctuary is not just a buffer for CCNR but also a treasure trove of cultural and biological diversity. Its historical significance as the site of a former Hainan Village adds an extra layer of charm and intrigue to this remarkable nature reserve! 🤗

Embarking on Our Adventure
Our day began with excitement and anticipation as we set out early in the morning. The 30mins+ drive from our place to Thomson Nature Park was an adventure in itself, with its location hidden amidst the bustling central urban landscape of Singapore. As we arrived at the park, we were greeted by the calming sounds of nature, a stark contrast to the usual urban cacophony! 😁
Thomson Nature Park boasts two main (5 in total) trails: the "Ruins and Figs Trail" (Red Trail) and the "Stream and Ferns Trail" (Yellow Trail). These trails overlap at various points, offering hikers a diverse range of experiences within the same park 👏

Ruins and Figs Trail: A Journey into the Past
Because I have a particular fascination with ruins, my priority when hiking at Thomson Nature Park was obviously looking for these historical remnants when I learned about it. The "Ruins and Figs Trail" fulfilled this desire perfectly, as it focuses more on the ruins of Hainan Village and the intriguing fig tree roots that can still be found on site. As we followed the trail, we were transported back in time, imagining what life was like in this village that once thrived in the heart of the forest 😊
However, I must admit that despite diligently following NParks' map, there were moments when some of the ruins eluded us along Jalan Belang. But, as I soon realized, the essence of this adventure lies not just in ticking off a checklist of ruins but in immersing oneself in the atmosphere of the past and savoring the natural beauty that surrounds them. So, don't be disheartened if you can't find some of the ruins; instead, allow yourself to be captivated by the enchanting scenery and the intriguing fig tree roots that tell their own story of time 😉

Stream and Ferns Trail: A Glimpse into Nature's Serenity
Our adventure continued as we ventured onto the "Stream and Ferns Trail". This trail offered a refreshing change of scenery, focusing on the stream that was once used by the residents of Hainan Village and the enchanting ferns that adorned its banks. As we walked alongside the trail, we marveled at the lush greenery of the ferns that created a serene canopy overhead 😝
While we were not able to witness the stream itself, it remained hidden beneath the thick, vibrant foliage, its presence known only by the gentle trinkles of water that provided a calming soundtrack to our journey. This subtle reminder of the stream's existence added to the overall tranquility of the trail, making it a peaceful and immersive experience 😇

Nature's Wonders Unveiled
As our trekking / hiking drew to a close, my wife and I couldn't help but feel a deep sense of contentment. Our journey through Thomson Nature Park had not only allowed us to escape the confines of our daily routine but had also given us a newfound appreciation for the natural wonders that thrive in our urban oasis. The park's commitment to preserving history and biodiversity had left a lasting impression on us, inspiring us to become more mindful stewards of the environment! ✌️
