MY BIG BIRTHDAY PRESENT TO MYSELF- SAILING ABOARD THE SOUTHERN SWAN...

Well hello to everybody out there in the #WednesdayWalk world Today.

I hope that you’re well and enjoying your walking and your adventuring wherever you are and whatever you’re doing.

A couple of days ago I posted some photos in the photography community @chocolatescorpi/finally-able-to-share-some-of-my-photos-from-the-tall-ship-tour-on-sydeny-harbour of this amazing replica Endeavour Tall Ship that I was lucky enough to sail upon on the Sydney Harbour for my birthday present back in October last year and so today I thought that I would share with you the actual video and some more photos I took of the actual trip.

Now you may not think of this as a walk and it wasn't. It was a HUGE relief from all the walking that I had done, not only that morning on a walking tour of the Rocks- which I will share with you next Wednesday, but the 3 days before that.

I don't think that I have ever walked that much on my life, so to sit down for a minute and have a peaceful sail on the tallship, was just bliss- especially for my poor sore feet!

So back on the 30th of October, 2022, I had a sensational spring afternoon sailing aboard the Southern Swan on the stunning Sydney Harbour in NSW, Australia.

This was a birthday present to myself, as I had always dreamed of sailing on this Tallship- ever since I first discovered them in 1988 as the Southern Swan, along with a fleet of other replica first fleet ships, had sailed from Sydney down the coast to my home area on the the NSW/VIC border and docked in Eden.

So I finally got to sail on one and see the sights around Sydney Harbour- another amazing destination that I hadn't seen since 1986 either.

"Originally named Our Svanen, the Southern Swan is a magnificent three-masted barquentine built in Denmark in 1922. Made of Danish oak she is a unique vessel, while not classified as an icebreaker, her hull is extraordinarily strong enabling her to handle light ice that may have built up in the cold waters of the North Atlantic, Denmark and Greenland, where she originally traded as a grain carrier

The Southern Swan has a unique nautical history. In 1969 she was purchased as a private vessel and extensively refitted to handle larger and longer ocean voyages. She served as a sail training vessel with the Canadian Sea Cadets and journeyed to Vancouver to appear at the World Expo in 1986. She then sailed to England to join the First Fleet Re-enactment.

The Southern Swan made the voyage from England to Australia in 1988 to take part in the famous Australian Bicentennial First Fleet Re-enactment. Her berth has been at the historic Campbell’s Cove, The Rocks ever since.

I can't recommend going on this sailing ship enough.

Not only was it a truly amazing and peaceful experience, all of the crew onboard were so friendly and helpful and the food and wine that was served was beautiful too.

It was so surreal to be sailing so silently under the giant girders of the Sydney Harbour Bridge as the cars zoomed across it above us and boats of all shapes and sizes flew across the top of the water around us, and there we were, just floating calmly along
