Hi fellow Hiveians,
Today I wanted to share some more farm animals we went to go see!

Fun Feeding Farm Animals
I was browsing around different sections of PeakD the other day when I found this post, which I knew didn't get published, and figured I'd put it out there! This was last year that I wrote this, so it's obviously a little out of date with the weather and all that but it was still a great time. Farms are amazing!
Original post:
Farms are definitely one of the places that are incredibly important to us for so many reasons. One of them that some may not feel the same way about is for entertainment!
We went out the other day to do some blueberry picking and the farm that we went to for that was one we've been to in the past fairly frequently but we've since found different and in some ways better farms elsewhere so we haven't been back to this one in a bit. We did go there for some blueberries which I'll be posting about in another post but we made sure to check out some of the other things that we like about this farm: the animals!
This one has mainly goats and sheep. I don't know what the goats are used for besides just eating everything in sight. Do they eventually get turned into meat? Not sure but in any case, they've got a lot of them! The animals are pretty hungry that's for sure and they absolutely love getting fresh stuff instead of the dried hay they are fed! The big female goats were the ones that were the most aggressive of the bunch, pushing the other smaller sheep and goats out of the way lol
We did find out later on in the day that the farmers would prefer we don't feed the goats the grass because sometimes people will grab grass that also has poison ivy in it or something else that the goats don't really like and end up making them sick. I do vaguely remember though that there is a company in Connecticut or something that rents out goats to eat all of the grass and poison ivy in a given area! I know sometimes people just make things up to get people to stop doing something they just don't like lol, not sure what the case is here.
Thankfully I seemed to have the bigger goat distracted! The little man was enjoying feeding the smaller sheep and goats himself, as you can see they were quite enamored with him sitting there and feeding them. I am glad to indulge him in these small things so that he can enjoy the animals and learn to respect them as creatures!
I know that the little man is going to own and raise some type of animals in the future. I am prepping him for doing that very stuff right now and it's going to be good. I know that raising animals is an important aspect of life because if we can keep our food sources as local as possible, that will allow us to fight off things that we don't like such as chemicals in our food and it also helps produce our own fertilizer!
I did cause a little bit of chaos myself lol. I was a little annoyed with the big mamma goat hogging all of the food so what I did was take a big handful of grass from around the area and tossed it into the pen! The goats and sheep all scrambled over to get the stuff off the ground. A bunch of them didn't get a chance to try any of the fresh stuff since the mamma goat was being a pain so they were more than happy to go for this. The mamma goat was mostly not interested in getting it off the ground so she left them alone. I ended up doing this a few times to give them plenty of things to crunch on!
Farms are definitely the most important thing we can have in the country and the world. It's important that we fight to keep farms locally owned and not bought up by giant corporations and companies. Nothing beneficial can be had when that happens, so try to support your local farms as much as you can by buying and picking directly from them!
