Just off the B3357 Princetown road to Tavistock road there is the small carpark free and track up to Yellowmeade Farm and Foggintor quarry.
Follow the path to Yellowmead farm passed some overgrown ruins and rather stunted gnarled conifers. Its a hard life being a tree on Dartmoor.
The walk is about 1.5miles to the old quarry working but well worth the effort. The old granite quarry workings and abandoned buildings are great for taking photos.
At the Yellowmead farm you need to continue on the old quarry granite tramway to Foggintor quarry. You can’t miss it there are some huge granite spoil heaps and old building ruins on the right side of the path.
This is a good place to stop and look at the old Foggintor quarry working from the 1800 the quarry is now flooded but it’s not very deep and a popular wild swimming spot.
If you follow the path on in another couple of miles you will get to Princetown home to to the high security prison originally dating from the Napoleonic wars.
but this will do me today so I’ll save the rest of the walk for another day.
