The challenge was too big for me.
I couldn't resist this extraordinary call and I had to stop my #wednesdaywalk for a while.
In the window of the Art Gallery of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SANU), an invitation for free entry to the exhibition of the painter Uroš Predić.
In the gallery, there was a collection (part of the works) of Uroš Predić, probably one of the most famous and significant Serbian realist painters of the second half of the 19th and the first half of the 20th century.
There is a big crowd in the SANU art gallery.
Obviously, visitors are very eager for such events, and why not, when Uroš Predić painted some of the most famous paintings of Serbian fine art, and probably beyond.
The painting "Kosovka devojka (Kosovo girl)", the portrait of "Živojin Mišić", the painting "Devojka sa studenca (Girl on a spring)" as well as numerous graphics painted by this famous painter attract your gaze and make you enjoy the realistic presentation of colors, shadows and characters.
Some of the exhibited paintings are ones that we could only see in some reading books and textbooks, since some of these works of art are owned by private collectors, hidden from the public eye for years.
Under one of the pictures (perhaps my favorite - since Saint George is the patron saint, whom my family celebrates as a #slava) "Saint George kills the dragon", I come across an interesting plaque about who, when and why this painting was donated to the church of Saint George in Kostolac.
Dr. Ferdinand Gramberg, contributed this picture to the Church of Saint George, for the health and long life of his uncle George Vajfert...
Dr. Ferdinand Gramberg, related to the then strong and well-known Vajffert family, was on the board of the Kolstolac mine, as well as the director of the first private hospital in Belgrade, before the First World War.
Guided by the story from that plaque, about members of the Vajfert family, I decide to continue my #wednesdaywalk in Pancevo, the place where the Old Vajfert brewery is located.
In the town of Pančevo, 20 km from the center of Belgrade, as far back in 1722, the first brewery in this area was opened by the Jew Abraham Kepiš.
From those years of its creation until 1847, the brewery changed many owners, and in 1847 it came into the possession of the Vajfert family.
Ignjat Vajfert was the first from the family to start a beer business, and the brewery had great success and progress after Djordje Vajfert started managing it.
Beer with short interruptions and mentions of the structure, the transition from private to state (with the arrival of communism after World War II), produces beer, until finally in 2008, the factory went into bankruptcy and stopped working.
Only one restaurant, tenant of space in the basement of the brewery with a beautiful summer garden, revives this once magnificent complex.
Today, the almost ruined and neglected factory stands as a silent witness to the former beer giant Vajfert, which is waiting for better times.
I don't believe that it will work again, but that it should be turned into a museum, because this factory, which will turn 300 years old, deserves it...
The same as this steam locomotive standing in the parking lot in front of the old Pancevo railway station and waiting to be connected to the already installed composition of restored wagons.
With a walk around Pancevo and a tour of the park and the magnificent Church of the Assumption, I end my today's #wednesdaywalk.
