What is needed for a perfect walk?
Nice weather, good company, interesting details that you have the opportunity to see during that walk, rich history of the place you are in?
Well, a little bit of everything.
Although on that day, when I attended the gathering of a small but cheerful group of Hivers at the Apatin #HiveMeetup, the weather was changeable cloudy, and at times with rain, but we did not give up and were not prevented from walking in parks, streets, along the banks of the Danube and enjoying being together.
The pictures that you can see here may look familiar to you, but, as one Hivers said, "Each of us has our own angle of view", thinking that each photo was made with a different camera, different, which it certainly is.
And so, I present to you this walk (with a lot of steps that day) as I saw it.
It all started on the main Apatin square, with a large mural of the Danube "Alas(fisherman)" and an interesting sculpture of Nikola Tesla, after which this square is named.
A square wouldn't be a square if there wasn't a fountain on it, and luckily, this one was in operation.
I say, luckily, for the reason that we came across one that was not working in the promenade area.
But the fact that fountain didn't work didn't take too much away from the beauty of this walking call.
A beautiful wide street, lined with trees and old buildings behind the trees, has been transformed into a fantastic pedestrian zone.
In that street, there are some of the most famous buildings and monuments of this city, the town hall, an old beer hall, a music school, an installation of a bush in an attempt to look like a deer, which is the mascot of this city because of the famous Apartina brewery "Jelen".
There is also a monument to the first king of Hungary, as well as the Church of the Assumption of Mary.
Nearby, there is also an interesting thorn tree (the one from whose branches the executioners of Jesus Christ made a wreath that was placed on his head), which was brought to Apatin from Jerusalem and which was planted in 1795 during the laying of the foundation of the Church of the Assumption of Mary.
In 1996, on St. Elijah's Day, August 2nd, the tree was struck by lightning and damaged, but it still continued to leaf.
I went inside the tree to show you the extent of the damage and it is a miracle that a tree so damaged still has leafy branches.
You can also educate yourself a little on the promenade, because in several places there are boards with the animal life of these regions.
Surprisingly, cats are not shown on any of the boards, which are everywhere in Apatin?
If you get lost in Apatin, which could not happen to us, because our hosts are natives, you can check where you are and where you are going on the big map of Apatin.
We headed to the Apatina pier. On the way, I came across an interesting advertisement for a restaurant, a beer factory, which is hard to miss, especially during production, when steam comes out of the smokestacks and when the smell characteristic of beer production spreads through the city.
In addition to the new beer factory, there is also an old administrative building, with a part that is a restaurant, but which is not working now.
We cross the tracks that go across the street, but we are not afraid that a train will run over us, these tracks have long since lost their role, as well as this old rusty ramp.
All the trains have long since passed and the rails remain as a witness of ancient times.
On the bank of the Danube, there is a metal building, which does not fit into the environment at all, the Apatin pier, which wishes us a safe journey, but as I was told, very few people actually boarded a ship here, this pier is almost not in use.
On the promenade, we come across several interesting metal sculptures, a couple of memorials, an interesting Amazon of Europe installation, which is actually a canopy and a place to leave bicycles, with marked bicycle routes that are all over the city, and at the very end of the large embankment another church.
But as we got closer to the restaurant and the place where we will have lunch, the surroundings interested us less and less. We only had menus in our heads and our Apatin Hive Meeting sign.
And after lunch, as we approached the car, we passed through a large city park in which there are many metal sculptures.
Apatians seem to like metal?
We drove the car to the bank of the Danube embankments and that's where the nature walk begins.
We walked around an excursion camp (Wagoni), walked by the pier with moorings for fishing boats where we petted a cat, went to the bank of the Danube and enjoyed the beautiful view of the river.
Someone sat down to rest and enjoy the view.
@mipiano I am giving you these three photos, and I'm glad you mentioned me so I don't miss them 🙂
Someone was looking for a photo position and when he found it, he snapped a few shots. And we all walked together.
Towards the end of the day, after visiting the old pump, we went to a nearby restaurant on the shore of the swimming pool and enjoyed a pleasant end of the day and the walk that I wanted to present through the photos this #wednesdaywalk
This walk was one of the most beautiful for me since the beginning of the year and I enjoyed it.
