On the way to go pick up some homemade scented candles, a very important errand that I was sent to do, I was seeing signs everywhere, "Source du Lerd", at first I didn't pay it too much attention, then I took a wrong turn that accidentally led me to it, which is often how things work.
At first I was like "meh I don't care", I thought, that now I got the candles, I can just chill here for a minute, see what happens.
"Source de Lerd"
Good luck finding info about it online, the only detail I could find is that:
At the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century, the water of the spring was appreciated by the local curists
source'source
Curist?
I guess that it probably means, that people were coming here to be cured, and I can only imagine that some miracle must have happened here.
It's of course written that the water is "non drinkable", and you can see by its color that it's probably a good idea.
Ah!! I've found another clue online:
At the end of the nineteenth century and early twentieth century, during annual fairs, local tourists came to party in taverns and drink the spring water. Rural music was played, attended by inhabitants of surrounding villages. But this popularity did not last and Lerd Spring was then deserted. Only a vague memory and some photographs remain. Today, the quality of the spring is less reliable, but the site is still popular with walkers and anglers.
So the source was an attraction in the area, until it wasn't. This is so interesting, to imagine people partying, or doing whatever people were doing 100 years ago.
How do we know that it's just not a sewage that people have been drinking for a 100 years?
Cheers!
I can imagine people sleeping here in the cave, making a fire, drinking ale, and singing songs.
You can see that this place hasn't been occupied, for a very long time. I don't even think that there are tourists anymore, the only reason I noticed the source, is really because I got lost.
It made me realize, that if I want to go "off grid", that's going to be the spot where you'll find me. Turn right at the sewage. I mean water source...
I see all sorts of faces, do you see it? I am sure at night, with a fire lighting the cave, it must be even more impressive.
I really like the way water erosion carved the rock.
There is also a small house, that was completely sealed. It was probably a place for travelers to stay.
I don't know why I was so fascinated by the stairs...I guess it reminded of an elvish sacred haven, I really enjoy when the vegetation is taking over, the moss shows that nobody has even taken that stairs for a long time.
Even the name "Lerd", sounds like "Lard", such a weird name.
Anyway it was cool to see something different, very green, and it makes sense that the vegetation would grow faster around a water spring.
Then got back into the car, and a few kilometers later I found an abandoned house, with a tower and all. I am thinking maybe I should maybe a spooky post about the abandoned house next as I took some pics!
Is there like a "urban exploration" tribe? But in that case mine is more a "rural" one.
That's it for today!
I am sure there isn't a person in the world, that has visited this place before, 100% sure about that hahah. And now it's pinned! We're working better than google, guys!
