This post is for the #wednesdaywalk challenge and the #makemesmile challenge collaboration. This collaboration initially took place once a month, but due to its popularity, @tattoodjay (of the #wednesdaywalk) and @elizacheng (of #makemesmile) decided to make it a weekly thing.
If you want to know more about the rules, visit this week's post by @tattoodjay where you will find all the rules at the bottom of his post after you've enjoyed his beautiful photos from his walk.
The destruction of the recent floods we've had here is still clearly visible wherever you go and I think it will remain with us for some time to come. The healing, the rebuilding, is not just going to happen overnight.
But specifically with that in mind, I thought maybe it would be good to see if we can still find something awesome to look at. Something that can be enjoyed and appreciated...something uplifting...
So we decided to head out to Howick and visit the Howick Falls. Howick Falls is situated more inland, about 85 KM from where we stay.
It was a cool cloudy day, with the possibility of some rain (again).
We haven't been there for quite some time, so we were looking forward to the outing. We also decided it would be a good opportunity to take our dog with us and take her out on the walk with us.
As we arrived, we almost started feeling disappointed. As we approached the area where the falls are, the road was blocked off and we saw that we would not be able to drive up to the parking area at the Howick Falls as we normally do.
We weren't too far away from the falls though, and we found nice parking in front of some of the little shops, about 200 meters away from the area where you can view the falls.
To our relief, as we parked we noticed that there were people strolling around in the area where you can view the falls.
And as we got out of our car, from that distance, we could already hear the mighty roar of the falls.
That got me excited. The falls are always spectacular to look at (as any waterfall for that matter as far as I'm concerned), but it was definitely louder than what I was used to at these particular falls. Especially taking the distance into consideration.
And indeed, it was a spectacular sight that was awaiting us...
Looking down at the bottom was just breathtakingly beautiful.
Getting the full view...
Far below us, to our left, the river turned away from us, finding its way towards the east until it disappeared behind the rocks on the opposite side of the falls.
Behind us, walking up some stairs, there are these boards, pointing in the direction of various waterfalls all over the world, also giving the distance to those particular falls from here.
From here we decided to go to the Midar Dam, also situated in Howick, but on the opposite side of Howick.
My dog was excited and ready for the second part of the walk... "yes dad, let's go"...lol. Every time when we take her out on a trip with us, she amazes me with how well-behaved she is in the car. We cover the seats at the back, secure her with her own safety belt, and she is calm and relaxed all the way. For her, it's such a treat just to be able to go with us...lol!
On our way to the dam, my wife wanted to get something to drink at the shop. While waiting outside, I took this photo of the clouds.
Arriving at the dam, I parked the car just after crossing the river.
I walked back onto the bridge and took this photo of the dam wall.
Then, still on the bridge, but standing on the opposite side of the road, I zoomed in to get this photo.
I then drove back to where the dam is visible from the side to take my last photo.
You can see the anchored sailboats in the distance, anchored at the Henley Midmar Yacht Club. I liked the tree, standing all by itself, edged off against the dam, with its autumn colors announcing that winter is approaching.
And that's it for today, folks!
Thank you for reading my post, I do appreciate it!
