A big Greetings to all the Wednesday Walk community. This week I take this opportunity to leave my participation in the Wednesday Walk challenge with the collaboration of Make me Smile.
In the last few weeks I have been a little busy, because my daughter suffered a clavicle injury, from which she is now recovered, but Wednesdays were when we went to the doctor's office, which has prevented me from participating in these walks. Fortunately today she was discharged and she is feeling better, so I take this opportunity to tell you about my walk in a place very close to the hospital where we used to go. The place I am referring to is the Jos茅 Miguel G贸mez Monument.
This magnificent work is located on the Avenue of the Presidents in Havana, Cuba. This avenue is known for having several sculptures that pay tribute to renowned figures who have been presidents of different Latin American countries. The sculpture of Jos茅 Miguel G贸mez is located at the highest point of this avenue. The Major General was a patriot who fought in the three wars for Cuba's independence against Spanish colonialism, and became the second president of the nation after Cuba achieved independence from Spain.
The monument is an impressive work that attracts attention for its beautiful and elaborate design, as well as for its large size. It is impossible not to stop and admire it! The monument is accessed by a staircase located on one of its sides. This adds to its majesty. The first thing that catches our attention is its large central obelisk in whose highest point there are six bronze figures representing the provinces in which the country was divided at that time. In front of the obelisk is the bronze figure of Major General Jos茅 Miguel G贸mez, resting on a large granite base, guarded on either side by two beautiful white marble statues. The statue of the General is facing the sea, which means that at the time of his death he was outside Cuba.
The sculptural ensemble is surrounded by a semicircle of columns with beautiful capitals that support a vaulted ceiling. This space provides abundant shade, which makes it an ideal place for visitors to take shelter from the sweltering heat that usually accompanies our climate. In addition, it has terraces and marble benches that surround the sculpture, providing a perfect space to rest and talk comfortably, offering the opportunity to enjoy this architectural beauty of the city.
This architectural work has been the subject of controversy since its creation, and at one point its demolition was considered. There is even a song that proposes tearing it down, due to the fact that the former president to whom it is dedicated made decisions that were not well received by the people at the time. Therefore, the presence of this sculptural work has been questioned on several occasions. However, in spite of everything, the monument still stands and is part of universal history and culture, beautifying the city. Recently, it was restored and cleaned to restore it to its original splendor.
So much for my Wednesday walk. I hope you have learned something new about the history and culture of my Havana. This is a city that is full of beautiful and historic places.
See you next Wednesday!

隆Hasta el pr贸ximo mi茅rcoles!
