A little over a week ago, one of my walks took place in a special nature reserve - Gornje Podunavlje Special Nature Reserve. I was not alone. I took this walk with fellow Hivers who visited the city of Apatin for a small Hive meetup. That afternoon, the weather changed to better, so we spent the whole afternoon exploring the beauty of nature in this area. One of these nice places where we stopped was this resort called Vagoni. In English, it means wagons.

I don't recall walking here before. My husband says he visited it many years ago, and that our son was also with him, but I think this was the very first time for me walking here. Well, it means more joy for me now to see something for the first time and enjoy every corner of it. The bench was also "used" as a place for a photo session... but I can't show you that fun as I don't have any of those photos 🤣. Only @duskobgd has them, so one day we will hopefully see that Hive bag and me, looking at one branch of the river.

Anyway, we are not here to sit on benches but to walk in this Wednesday Walk. The place, as I mentioned, is called Vagoni (wagons), and according to one of the Hivers who was with us, the name comes from the fact that the first cabins/houses here were made of train wagons. But that belongs to the past, as nowadays just houses built of wood or bricks are seen around. First, we passed by some more modest houses, but they had some interesting features. I liked these wooden balconies.

It seems that the houses were made by the owners many years ago, more like hobby projects... Maybe the little ones were also helping. Look what I have found, a little surprise. 😇

After walking by these old houses, we crossed a smaller meadow and arrived at the real river, the Danube River, not just its branch. There is a really nice path among the trees which we followed, perfect for a summer walk.

The coastline of the river is pretty charming, with the open water and reflections of the forest from the other bank of it. There, behind those trees, is another natural park, Kopački Rit, which belongs to Croatia.

Many of those who come here to spend their summer in this resort, Vagoni, have their own boats. You can approach this place by car, following the embankment built to protect the city from the floods. Another way to come here is by using a boat like this.

While we were there, walking and taking a few photos of these little boats, a big river cruise passed in the middle of the river. I imagine it is so nice to take such a trip, passing through the heart of Europe and seeing the beautiful cities and forests on the banks of the river.

Our walk continued, passing by some really awesome houses, on the path that follows the course of the river. Watching the sunset over the water from your home is probably worth the effort and any flood risks that these houses face year by year.

That is why many of these houses have tall "legs", to stay dry when the water decides to take a walk in the same path we did in this post. 😉
