So, we sailed by ferry from Turkey, Cesme to the island of Chios, which is Greece. We drove only half an hour on the Aegean Sea. And of course Cesme and Chios are similar. Immediately, walking in the Cesme, I noticed that the climate here is different. Dry heat and cool strong wind blew from the sea. This is the influence of the Aegean Sea!
So, we went out on the island Chios and went for a walk along the waterfront in search of a cafe to relax and think about where we will go next and where to settle.
The embankment was extremely beautiful with its two-storey old houses. We returned to the side street, where we found a nice cafe and a table on the street under flowering trees, such as in Turkey.
The first bill in the cafe - coffee and freshs- and we realized that the food here is much more expensive than in Turkey! From the balcony of the second floor of the cafe, where we went up to the toilet, there is a view of so turquoise Aegean Sea! And chairs on the balcony in the Greek style :)
Later we split into two companies. My son and daughter-in-law went to an apartment, which we found at a distance of 33 km. And my daughters and granddaughter and I went for a walk around town, because we didn't fit in our car together.
The first thing I noticed was the large number of people on motorcycles! Later I understood why. There are extremely narrow streets, and my daughter-in-law noticed that most cars have signs that they have hit the curb))) We have seen many Suzuki Jimny cars on the streets - ideal for narrow winding streets.
I enjoyed the amazing Greek architecture. It was immediately felt that I was in another country, in another culture. I did not dream of going to Greece on this trip, but life made me an unexpected gift!
We went to the square and saw the Castle of Chios I took a photo of myself in memory :)
And here my Victoria said that she could no longer withstand this heat, and we saw the park! It was a magnificent park where towering palm trees provided shade. Colorful flowers gave pleasure.
On either side of the alley were statues of some Greek sages or philosophers, as well as a winged creature, probably from Greek mythology.
The green grass invited me to sit down to rest :) A woman was sleeping under the palm trees, and we sat down next to her and felt a pleasant coolness. So we rested for half an hour. And suddenly a Greek gypsy woman appeared from somewhere, asking for money :)
I explained in my poor English that I had no money because I was a tourist from Ukraine. She understood my gestures and went on to ask someone else :)
And we went for a walk in the city. There was a fountain on the way. I remembered how 30 years ago I was in Prague and people were sitting there and dipping their feet into the fountain. I don't know if it's allowed here, but I climbed into the fountain and dipped my legs and arms. I started to feel better!
We walked the narrow streets where people rode motorcycles. I liked that there were awnings from the heat, stretched between the roofs of houses. So it was comfortable to walk.
My children played and enjoyed our walk in this cozy exotic town, which as far as I understand is called Saint Nicholas.
I saw a sign on a small old building and a cross on the roof. It was the chapel Saint Nicholas
I went inside and felt the spirit of antiquity and peace. I was surrounded by icons of St. Nicholas and the Mother of God, which have always been in my parents' house in Ukraine.
In the middle was a place where candles were burning. There was no one here, only me and God! I lit a candle as a thank you for everything I have: my healthy children, food... and this incredibly exciting journey!
We were hungry and went in search of a Greek restaurant. The Google Maps route took us back to the waterfront, where we sat in a very beautiful old restaurant, about which I will write a separate post.
Suddenly we noticed a grand large ship "Hellenic Seaways", which was approaching the port.
We met my son and daughter-in-law, and we stood on the waterfront for a long time and watched as many cars left this giant ship.
Later we went to our apartment and it was a nice find, because the next six days we lived as if on a desert island ...
