Hello Wednesday Walk community!
Today I want to share with you this walk I have taken through Havana, a city full of history, culture and beauty. Throughout the morning, I walked through some of the streets of this Caribbean city, getting to know its people, its architecture and its gastronomy.
It was an incredible experience that allowed me to immerse myself in the daily life of Havana and discover some of its many charms.
In this post, I will tell you everything I experienced during my walk through this beautiful city, so join me on this adventure!
On this day we start from one of the tips of the boardwalk where we can see a street with beautiful palm trees in the middle, next to it the entrance of the sea to the Havana (the Bay) between the boardwalk and the Lighthouse of the Castle of the morro being able to see some of the fishing boats of small fishermen, very beautiful views.
After appreciating these views, @nicolelorena and I set out to enter the old Havana of the best places to walk and do tourism in Havana
Walking through Havana
Our first stop was the cathedral square, this is undoubtedly an emblematic place of Havana and one of the mandatory stops on any tour of the city.
As soon as you enter the square, the first thing you notice is the majestic Cathedral of Havana, an impressive work of Baroque architecture that dates back to the 18th century. The facade of the cathedral is incredible, with its twin towers and its detailed ornamentation.
But the Cathedral is not the only thing that makes this square special. Around it, we can see a series of restored colonial buildings or in restoration works, which transport you to the time of Spanish colonization.
Walking through Havana
After enjoying the beauty of Cathedral Square, we decided to continue our walk through the streets of the city, you have a special charm that can be felt on every corner: its old buildings, its colorful murals and its friendly and welcoming people.
We walked through narrow streets, surrounded by colonial and art deco houses, which seemed to be taken from another era. All senses are sharpened when walking through these streets: the smell of coffee and tobacco, the sounds of music and people talking, and the vibrant colors of the facades of the houses.
On our way, we came across La Bodega del Medio, another of the emblematic places of Havana that has become a meeting point for locals and tourists. The winery is a small bar that offers a wide selection of Cuban drinks and food, such as the famous pork sandwich and the Cuban mojito.
The atmosphere in this place is quite lively but very pleasant, with live music and a lively atmosphere. We couldn’t get in because it was full of people but I really liked to see it even from the edge, it was a great stop on our walk.
It is true that, despite all the beauty and charm of Havana, you can also see some parts of the city that are in a state of deterioration.
The lack of investment in infrastructure, the tropical climate and the effects of time have left their mark on many buildings and streets in the city.
Walking through Havana
Then we set out to walk through the cobbled streets of the city, it was a unique experience that allowed us to connect with its history and culture. Cobblestones are an important part of the city’s architecture, and have been used since colonial times to pave the streets.
On our tour of the cobbled streets, we could see colonial buildings with wrought iron balconies and carved wooden doors, as well as murals and graffiti by local artists. We could also see the inhabitants of the city and their daily activities, such as street vendors offering fresh fruits and vegetables, and children playing in the streets.
One of the things that struck me the most when walking through the cobbled streets of Havana was the contrast between the beauty and charm of the city and the challenges faced by the people who live there. Despite the difficulties, the city of Havana is still a place full of life, culture and hope.

After walking a few blocks we arrive at La Plaza de San Francisco de Asís, which is another of the most emblematic squares in Havana and a mandatory stop on our tour. It is located in the historic center of Havana and is one of the most photographed places in the city.
On one side of the square is the impressive Convent of St. Francis of Assisi, a religious building of Baroque architecture. Inaugurated in 1575. The facade is located on Byficio Street where there are three stone statues representing the Immaculate Conception, St. Francis of Assisi and St. Dominic of Guzmán. Currently, inside the monastery, the Museum of Sacred Art of the city of Havana is housed.
On the other hand we have the sculpture “La Conversación”, this is a work of contemporary art and is one of the most popular attractions in the square.
The sculpture depicts two human figures sitting in “stries” who seem to be having a conversation. The interesting thing about the sculpture is that it is located in front of the Lonja del Comercio, a historic building that at the time was used for the trade of goods and products.
Crossing the street we find the Sierra Maestra Cruise Terminal, in this historic center of the city. Inaugurated in 1914, it was built on the site of the old Cargo Pier in Havana.
The terminal receives large ships from Latin America, Central America, the United States, Canada and other destinations.

And to finish our revorrido we went to the Experimental Graphic Workshop where there was an exhibition, as you can see in the photo it is in a super busy piece of street full of bars and restaurants, with live music of small self-taught artists.
