Today @wiseagent launches the new edition of the league of movies.
After so many "tracks" that have intrigued me so much, this time I have to succumb behind a theme, a genre that unfortunately I don't like very much: horror.

I chose a film almost too obvious
IT
I chose it because it's quite recent but also because, the clown is in the collective imagination.
Very recognizable, very disturbing and for this generator of an incredible planetary success.
Based on the stories of the mister's master, Stephen King, it came back into the limelight in 2017, thanks to the signature of Andres Muschietti, Argentine director with only one film to his credit, the debut one.
But Muschietti was able to take advantage of this incredible opportunity, filming a very classic but very successful film.
Suffice it to say that we are dealing with a film that has grossed over 700 million dollars.
The cast includes two young actors who, thanks also to this film, seem to be heading towards a dazzling career.
Bill Skarsgaard & Sophie Lillis
The first one plays the clown Pennywise. A very young actor, but descendant of the long tradition of the Skarsgaard family with his father Stellan and his brothers, also very famous actors.
For Sophie Lillis we are talking about a debut.
The girl all freckles and smiles bewitched everyone.
A magnetic, sweet and determined look and an energy that we also appreciated in a recent performance in a Netflix TV series.
The great challenge of IT, of any adaptation of Stephen King in reality, is to be able to propose environments more than themes, atmospheres more than messages that the writer brings to the reader for decades.
It's no coincidence that 90% of the many adaptations have been a flop.
This was not the case and this is certainly a great merit of Muschietti, having been able to carry on a credible image of the most feared clown in the world and especially profitable in terms of box office.
But is this enough to define that of "IT" an excellent cinematic re-proposal?
Judging by the many online reviews, Muschietti's is a half success.
It only partly manages to give us back the spirit of King's novel.
It can only partially satisfy fans of the horror genre.
It is only partly able to be faithful to what fans of the novel and horror fans would like from a film like this.
He is forgiven all in the name of great economic success.
He's forgiven for being very mainstream.
You forgive him everything because he managed to bring a lot of boys and girls to the cinema who never went to the cinema for a horror film.
He created, in short, a new mass of spectators ready to buy a ticket to the cinema for this kind of film, to buy DVDs or rely on merchandise.
But from a purely artistic, cinematic point of view, what does "IT" give us back?
Very entertaining and well confined.
Very little innovation, little orignality, a feeble wave of freshness.
It's not totally convincing.
You jump out of your chair very few times.
The anxiety typical of horror is present but not overwhelming.
The thriller component is almost absent.
Yet IT allows itself to be watched pleasantly, with fluidity and freshness, falling in love with the damsel in distress and becoming afraid of the bad clown.
IT generates new nightmares in new viewers, but perhaps it doesn't worry and lets navigated viewers sleep peacefully.
So can it be considered a success?

Ho scelto un film quasi fin troppo scontato
IT
L'ho scelto perchè di abbastanza recente visione ma anche perchè, il pagliaccio è nell'immaginario collettivo.
Molto riconoscibile, molto inquietante e per questo generatore di un successo planetario incredibile.
Tratto dai racconti del maestro del mister, Stephen King, è ritornato alla ribalta nel 2017, grazie alla firma di Andres Muschietti regista argentino con all'attivo solo un film, quello d'esordio.
Ma Muschietti ha saputo sfruttare questa occasione incredibile, filmando una pellicola molto classica ma di grandissimo successo.
Basti pensare che siamo di fronte ad un film che ha incassato oltre 700 milioni di dollari.
Nel cast spiccano 2 giovani attori che, anche grazie a questo film, sembrano lanciati verso una carriera folgorante.
Bill Skarsgaard & Sophie Lillis
Il primo interpreta proprio il pagliaccio Pennywise. Attore giovanissimo ma discendente della lunga tradizione della famiglia Skarsgaard con papà Stellan e i fratelli, anche essi attori di ottima fama.
Per Sophie Lillis parliamo praticamente di un esordio.
La ragazza tutta lentigini e sorriso ha stregato tutti.
Sguardo magnetico, dolce e determinato e un'energia che abbiamo apprezzato anche in una recente interpretazione in una serie tv Netflix.
La grande sfida di IT, di qualsiasi adattamento di Stephen King in realtà, è quella di riuscire a riproporre ambienti più che tematiche, atmosfere più che messaggi che lo scrittore porta al lettore da decenni.
Non è un caso che il 90% dei tanti adattamenti sia stato un flop.
Non è stato questo il caso e questo è sicuramente un grande merito di Muschietti, avendo saputo portare avanti un immagine credibile del clown più temuto al mondo e soprattutto redditizia in termine di incassi.
Ma basta questo a definire quella di "IT" un'ottima riproposizione cinematografica?
A giudicare dalle tante reviews online quello di Muschietti è un successo a metà.
Riesce solo in parte a restituirci lo spirito del romanzo di King.
Riesce solo in parte ad accontentare i fan del genere horror.
Riesce solo in parte ad essere fedele a quello che fan del romanzo e fan dell'horror vorrebbero da un film come questo.
Gli si perdona tutto in nome del grande successo economico.
Gli si perdona tutto perchè riesce ad essere molto mainstream.
Gli si perdona tutto perchè è riuscito a portare al cinema moltissimi ragazzi e ragazze che al cinema, per un film horror non ci erano mai andati.
Ha creato, insomma, una nuova massa di spettatori pronti a comprare un biglietto al cinema per questo genere di film, ad acquistare dvd o affidarsi al merchandise.
Ma dal punto di vista prettamente artistico, cinematografico che cosa ci restituisce "IT"?
Molto intrattenimento e ben confenzionato.
Pochissima innovazione, una scarsa orignalità, una flebile ondata di freschezza.
Non convince totalmente insomma.
Si salta dalla sedia pochissime volte.
L'ansia tipica dell'horror è presente ma non travolgente.
La componente thriller è quasi assente.
Eppure IT si lascia guardare piacevolmente, con fluidità e freschezza, innamorandosi della fanciulla in pericolo e impaurendosi del pagliaccio cattivo.
IT genera nuovi incubi nei nuovi spettatori ma forse non preoccupa e lascia dormire sogni tranquilli agli spettatori navigati.
Può essere dunque considerato un successo?
