Hey there!
This is the second post on the series titled ‘Self-Face Experiments’, which is crucially based on Facial Perception and Identity. It consists of a series of digital assemblages onto self-portraits, which explores the possibilities of human visual perception.
What makes up a face? What is a face? Why is a face perceived in the way it is? And what if we perceive it in another way? … These and other notions are explored through the conventionalities of the digital medium.
As an extension to my undergraduate research on Pareidolia in Art (perceiving random patterns as faces), I also explored the varied possibilities of human facial perception. I used my face/personality as a specimen to explore and experiment on facial identity enquiring the fragility and impermanence to perceive and recognize a face-form by manipulating it.
This project sprouted during the jarring period of quarantine as a result of the Pandemic 😷
The isolation diminished all the world around me and that led me to explore more about myself, my appearance, my identity and my character. Throughout the process, I got to know those layers of my persona that I had never felt before.
You can call this a narcissistic view of the 'material self', as I really got obsessed with clicking selfies and showing some self-love in a new way.
In the previous post, I shared a work titled 'THE H I D D E N' fusing two of my projects (Self-Face Experiments & Pareidolic Visions)
SFE – 04 ‘Uneasy’
Created using PicsArt and Vaporgram. This is the very image I use for ending credits at the bottom of my posts.
Process and Elements used
This is the original image I started working with. It traversed through a few separate trails of editing.
(I know I'm bad at taking selfies🧑🏼 Also please don't mind my frizzy hair)
Trigger image for creation. I did this back when I got bored of something I don't remember now.
Cropped image to be used for collage
In the blindfolded, collaged stage
Tadaa!
SFE - 01 'Sleeping Lines'
This is the first and main piece from this project preceding all the further body of work and also my very own profile pic

This is a different version of the original work I promote. I created this gif using the Vaporgram app on my android phone. It's a really cool app. Have a go for it if you're into the vaporwave and retrowave aesthetic!
Some other versions in the series
SFE – 02 ‘Pacifier’
SFE – 03 ‘Jaw Skipping’
SFE – 05 ‘Eye Boggler
Anyway...
That's all for now
More in the upcoming posts...
Stay tuned for the next post! 😉😎
