Hi guys! π
Today I want to share with you a story of my first big assignment, which was making T-shirt projects for Medicine. I tried to make contact with them before without success and one day my friend asked me if I want to try working with them. After I replied that I tried to but without any result, she gave me a contact for her manager (as she was working atm in one of their shops) and they liked my style and proposed me my own collection. I was thrilled!
I thought about making a story of shamans, spirits and wilderness and gathered first inspirations:
At first they told me to make 8 concepts out of my topic, which was harder task than it seemed! I took a paper and wrote down every association my mind came with and secondly I divided them into eight different stories:
- beauty of nature (especially jungle)
- dangerous spirits
- passion and fury
- loneliness of a shaman
- burden of a healer
- masks we wear
- life and death as one
- tradition of primitive tribes
As I finished thinking I started sketching and my mind was broad open for ideas π
Soon after I began my work on selected concepts things have changed. I was told that a bigger collection is going to happen and my art was selected to be placed with (quote) 'the best artists of the season' and it's going to be better promoted than individual's collection. Instead of 8 projects I had to make 4...
Well, OK! If it's a better option for me to promote then why not? - I thought although I was a bit disappointed I cannot show every one of my projects to the bigger audience.
Some of them are still about to be completed, like the one below:
Finally after few months of hard work and endless color corrections 4 of the projects were complete and I was proud of myself I did it!
1. Masks
process:
2. Forest Spirit
3. Jungle
4. Shaman Pattern
Sadly, only two of them were pushed into production and I wasn't informed about it :(
Also despite many corrections of color and composition the originals were changed without consultation...
What became of it?
why have you cropped the skull like that?? π
this one looks nice
I was disappointed that two of the projects were not used at all (roughly 100 work-hours spend on them), it wasn't as promoted as they said and money wasn't so great but seeing people around wearing one of my designs - absolutely priceless :)
Happily, my mark was printed on the T-shirts labels so I'm not a complete anonymous
It was a big adventure for me and I gained a lot of experience which is the most important part in that story π
Thank you for your time and have an amazing day, everyone! π
