Hello Hivers!
This drawing is not about perfection, it’s about capturing energy and form in few steps.
Using Marie's soft charcoal pencil, I approached this piece with speed and spontaneity, allowing the chaos flow naturally.
Here's a simple breakdown for anyone wanting to try a loose portrait sketch:
Step 1: Start with the left eye. Keep it bold, as this will ground the face. Then work on the left cheek and part of the hair to begin forming structure.
Step 2: Balance the gaze by sketching and working on the right eye, cheek and nose. Once that’s in place, develop the entire hair. Free your hands and let your strokes be expressive.
Step 3: Form the Face by refining the the nose, mouth and jaw. These features tie everything together. Don’t worry about symmetry, go with the flow.
Step 4: Work on the neck to connect the face to the body.
Step 5: Embrace the Chaos by finishing up with the details, adjusting and most importantly, stop before overworking. Let the mess stay, imperfections bring character.
It’s quick, messy, full of energy and that’s the point. Let me know how you did in the comments. I love you all!❤️
