We probably all have our favourite actor. Probably several ones. Some of them are appreciated for their expressive range, like Jim Carrey, others for their chameleon-like ability to change into a role, like Daniel Dey - Lewis, and others for their almost stone-faced expression - I think the Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen can be placed in this category.
Mads has not acted in films since his early youth. On the contrary, he has a completely different profession - gymnast and dancer. He not only qualified as a dancer at the Gothenburg Ballet School, but worked as one for almost 10 years! If that wasn't impressive enough - he learned during this time to speak Swedish language fluently. Then he gave up ballet for theatre in Aarhus Theatre, where he could enter in acting career.
I think, that his rich curriculum vitae and interesting education not only gives his acting grace and charm, but also makes him much more authentic.
He successfully plays the roles of street thugs, social outcasts as in the film 'Pusher', he perfectly plays comedic roles, especially the grotesque ones like 'Adam's Apples', dramatic roles - he was amazing in 'The Hunt', or sophisticated, calculated characters as in the series 'Hannibal'.
Today I have a 'double' portrait of Mads for you.
A portrait in the mirror.
My warmest greetings to you,
