Hey Hive!
We're back again with another Art Attack! If you're new to the series, this is where I share my drawings and the process behind them. A behind-the-scenes look at my artwork, if you will. This is not to say that I'm very good at art, or that I'm a professional in any way. In fact this is the opposite, and serves as a reminder to how I first started, and lets me track my progress too!
I've shared about my streaming journey on Twitch and the art I've done for my Twitch channel and this time, it's bit tier emotes! Viewers can show their support to streamers by giving them bits, aka cheering, and one bit is one cent. So once you reach a certain amount of bits contributed to a channel you unlock bit tier emotes in that channel.
Here are some older bit emotes I did that were really rough, and in dire need of an upgrade. Now that my art has improved I thought I'd just do an overhaul of all of them.
I wanted a common theme across the bit tier emotes and since you had to give money to get them, I thought making them all money-themed would be perfect. Another really common meme is this one from Spongebob:
Source: Know Your Meme
Since I wanted my emotes to be based on memes, I thought this would be a good one to have. It also makes sense since you would be paying for quite a lot of bits to get to get access to this emote tier.
There wasn't really a reference I could find for this one, so I just based it off the meme image itself and this was the sketch I initially came up with.
I think I wanted to draw in some ghost money flying away but then decided it looked a bit too much, so I just went with the meme on its own.
I realised I didn't draw in a nose in the sketch which is why it looked like something was missing. So I included it in the outline and after colouring, we get this:
I thought of changing the eyes, but after drawing my previous emote I figured if I changed the eyes it would be less recognisable so I kept them.
I adjusted the hand a little bit and added in my TacoCat to the dollar bills, reminiscent of my older emotes and after some shadows we get this!
The arm still looked a little weird to me but I honestly didn't know how else to change it. The rest looked okay, though so I left it at that. The TacoCat looks blur on the dollar bills since I had to work on 500x500px and shrink it down even more. But it's fine since it's not the focus and actually makes the facial expression pop even more.
Here's what it looks like in chat since it shrinks to about 56px:
I thought it looked good; you can clearly see what it's supposed to be referencing with the dollar bills and the face but it's still uniquely TacoCat. All in all, a perfect addition I'd say. I'm pretty satisfied with it.
So far I've only unlocked 5 bit tier emotes available on my channel, so we have two more to go!
Here's the whole bit emote showcase:
Thanks for reading and tune in next week for the next one!
