Greetings true believers! Here's a piece I did for a supers project I'm working on for the 4C Table Top Roleplaying Game. If you ever played the TSR Marvel Superheroes game (lovingly referred to by fans as the FASERIP system) back in the 1980's, 4C is a freely available open source version of the game. I LOVE super RPGs and FASERIP was for me the best of them all. Light weight and flexible, it didn't get bogged down by a lot of number crunching like Champions or even Villains and Vigilantes did. Those games had their place if you wanted a really granular quantum of definition of character attributes (especially Champions/Hero system). However, I always just wanted to get into the action as quickly as possible and the FASERIP system was the best at doing it. I also loved the adjectives used to describe power levels. I mean Remarkable strength versus Monstrous - yeah, it was evocative.
I first encountered the game when I was 12 with the Marvel Superheroes Basic Set. Man, I STILL get all giddy over the boxed set.
I quickly got into the Advanced Game with its expanded powers and ability score progression. The advanced game did a bit better job of incorporating cosmic and godly characters.
Either way, I spent HUGE portions of my early to mid teens creating characters and making super teams and hideouts, equipment and scenarios. It was a lot of fun. When Phil Reed decided to create an open source version of the game several years back, I had to jump on it. Though I don't play supers games much these days, I still love to make characters, teams, hideouts, etc.
Anyway, here's a character called Ember that I came up with. A star faring cosmic classed character that deals with heat, or more specifically, manipulation of energy that can be transferred from one object to another or even created at the expense of the loss of other forms of energy. Originally I had an idea of these paper dolls where you could lay costume over them. I still like the idea but need to refine it. In the case of Ember, here is a bit of the evolution of the design. Cheers and happy gaming!
