Table Top RPGs have been very much a part of my life since 1981. Comic books since before that. So it was a no brainer that the TSR release of the Marvel Superheroes RPG in the early 1980's was right up my alley. I gotta tell yah, it was definitely love at first sight for me. I probably played far more Marvel FASERIP than any other RPG back then (Advanced Dungeons and Dragons was second but I devoted far more time to creating superhero characters, bases, equipment, etc. than anything else). I still have an enormous soft spot for that game and have really been itching to get back to it. With the release of 4C RPG as an open source clone of FASERIP, I've REALLY been wanting to do some stuff for it. Right now, I've been busy drawing up some of my original Marvel FASERIP characters. This is one of my favorites from back then. Sabre Lynx, a mutant with the ability to create psychic sabres. Yeah I know, Psylock of the X-Men has a similar schtick, but I came up with the idea of him from before that, though he was influenced a lot by a villain from a Thor comic that could throw psychic daggers. The Zaniac appeared in Thor 372. It was the first Thor comic I ever read and I was smitten. The Walter Simonson art was incredible. I liked the conflict with both the crazy Zaniac and the Judge Dredd rip off. At the time I had no idea who Judge Dredd was so it was all pretty heady stuff for me. I liked the idea of the Zaniac's psychic daggers. It really left an impression on my then 13 year old self. Of course I wanted a heroic version of it. And I figured swords were cooler, so, yeah. It was a lot of fun resurrecting an old friend. I'll stat him up for the 4C supplement I'm working on. It'd be good to get to play him again. Until next time true believers, Happy Gaming!
