Here's a video of my latest Gameknot Blitz game in which I was White and led with the Queen's Pawn Opening:
1.d4 d6 Transposes Into The King's Indian Defence
White opened with 1.d4. Black responded with 1... d6 (which I'd been intending to play had I been Black against a 1.d4 opening too!).
The game transposed into a King's Indian Defence but without too much punch from Black on the Kingside.
Black Squared Bishop Neutralized
Indeed, Black's g7 Bishop was neutralized for the whole game while White developed a strong closed pawn structure on the white squares and used his Knight to break into Black's defences while Black's Black squared Bishop remained ineffective throughout.
The game looks equal, but there is an important IMBALANCE: White's Knight versus Black's black-squared Bishop. The material is equal, but the closed pawn structure, White's control of the White squares, and White's Knight (great for closed positions) makes White much better than Black in this position, in my opinion...
In the video, watch out for Black's draw offer, which White REJECTED in spite of time pressure! LOL!
After the Queen's had been swapped off, White was able to get his Knight and King working together to force the win.
If I'd Been Black I'd've Tried A Stalemate Trick Before Resigning
Mind you, in the end, had I been Black I'd've put my King onto a8 before resigning, to see if White would grab a pawn and end up with a stalemate draw! Check it out:
Black simply resigned, but I'm glad to note that I was aware of the danger of stalemate and would not have taken the c7 pawn with my King! Instead, I would probably have advanced the c pawn to c5, then after the forced exchange, knobbled the unprotected pawn with my Knight, which can also catch the c-file runner, and in due course, taken advantage of Black's broken pawn structure to break through and get a queen... At least that seems like a good idea, but I haven't played it out on the board!
I just received the post game analysis from Gameknot, and White has checkmate in 9 moves (LOL) from the point where Black resigned!
