Hello Chess lovers
Welcome to the blog of @southgamer where I love to talk about games I play, my experience while playing the game, and anything game-related. In today's post, I did what I said I would do in my last post, play more chess and participate more often in Hive-related chess tournaments.
Not too long ago, I battled in the Lichess Team Battle against other chess teams, representing the Blockchain Chess Team. Thankful I got back early today from work because some of the lead staff attended a conference today and those who weren't able to attend, closed up early and went home.
This made me check in on my notification on the Lichess app from @stayoutoftherz about the team battle. Although I was 12 minutes late but I told myself I'm all in for fun and see how many points I can get before the tournament ends.
I even did something crazy. I went in for all berserk. Since I discovered Berserk gives you more points when you win, I told myself I wouldn't stop today, Berserk all through to the end, and play like the time doesn't matter until it matters.
It gladdens my heart to say I was the second player to bring in the most points right after a player called MFS. Although the Blockchain Chess Team didn't do well, finishing in 9th place out of 10 teams, I'm glad I had fun because there was a rush of emotion running through my veins as I played. Some were because I was winning, others because I was losing badly.
It's sad that I still lost this game against a player with an Elo rating of 2500. I don't even know what went wrong but I guess due to the time pressure I played complete rubbish. This is where I got it all wrong.
I panicked and used my rook to capture the bishop, thinking I would win on time but sadly I didn't. Instead, I lost when the 2500 player showed me how fast he was when he was down on time.
I wasn't fast enough
A game I enjoyed playing the most was the last game I played until the end of the tournament. I berserked, hoping I would be fast enough to win the game before the tournament countdown timer ended, and luckily for me, I did. My opponent could not believe what my knights had done to his position.
I'm not extremely talented at chess but I say for certain that my opponent is frustrated by my knights in his game. Making it easy for me to play since his king can't castle because it has moved previously.
After capturing my pawn, I knew something was definitely wrong with that move. Took a little time and I grabbed the free piece. But what is more exciting is the ending position. His king was mesmerized by my pieces.
My second rook just remained in the same place while the remaining pieces were busy. That must be nice.
Truly I had fun and I brought in 28 points, my highest for the first time.
