Hey chess players
Welcome to my blog, where I love to talk about my games, gaming experience, and anything game-related. In the turnout of events for today, my attention was grabbed by the ongoing esports cup being held in Saudi Arabia.
The reason is that I'm a game lover, and esports has included chess in the esports universe. Today I was watching Hikaru take on Magnus in the semifinal, and this gave me a heads up that today is another team battle. Although the blockchain chess team has been relegated to Division 5, the fighting spirit is still burning in my heart and the hearts of other Hive players.
The Hikaru and Magnus match was quite a tough one as they ended on 3 points each, making it 6 games played. Magnus grabbed the lead first but couldn't hold on to it despite giving a shush to the Nakamura fans in the room.
I even discovered that there is a rival amongst their fans. If you happen to be a Magnus fan, you can't be a Nakamura fan. Well, for me, I am yet to decide on whose fan club I would like to join. A part wants Magnus, and the other player feels Nakamura is more entertaining to watch because he's a streamer.
Their match ended up in armageddon, where Carlsen claimed the win in a must-win situation. With that level of play and composure, I have to say I'm team Magnus Carlsen.
For the Battle Team
I didn't perform particularly well, but I was fairly competitive, as I am preparing for the Saturday HiveChess Tournament organized by @sam.chess.
Nah. Just kidding
They whipped my ass again. My attention was divided since I was watching Magnus against Nakamura. So my full focus wasn't on the board. However, I had a pretty impressive win against a 2100-rated player. The player chose to berserk me, but I did not berserk back when I had received my decent losses from previous games, thanks to berserk.
This was when I played something quite brilliant. I went for the bishop sacrifice on f3 since I could see my rook would be coming in next with a check if my opponent captures my bishop with his knight.
I knew my aggressive position would bring something decent for me, even a win if I play well. As long as the king is far from its knight, I should have something good going on for me in the game. After I got my opponent's knight, the game went into a two-rook endgame, then we exchanged one rook, and we were both left with one each. But my knight had the upper hand since I had a pawn heading to the promotion square. My opponent tried to stop it, but when I got greedy by grabbing more of my pawns, it was too late to stop the running pawn. We finished 2nd and we got promoted to Division 4 of the Liga Team Chess Battle. The next round is on Sunday. I will be in top form after winning the Saturday Hivechess Tournament. See you in the next game. I am @southgamer. Try gaming and thank me later
