Thrilled to announce I will be representing Nigeria and Africa at the FIDE Grand Swiss 2025!
The FIDE Grand Swiss
One of the most prestigious events in the chess world, the FIDE grand swiss is considered by many the hardest tournament in chess to win as the top 100 slots is dominated by the best players in the world. The winner gets a direct entry into the candidates and will have a chance to challenge for the world champion title. So getting the chance to play in this tournament is already a huge achievement for me.
I received the official confirmation a few days ago and decided yeah, I just have to share this. An opportunity like this does not come around often, there's a lot of experience to gain from it, being an 11 rounds swiss tournament I'll get to play the best and of course I hope to hold my own against them haha.
A major milestone being the first Nigerian participating in this tournament.
2025! What a Year
Took this picture on my birthday back in January, a quiet moment during a time of reflection. 2024 was filled with challenges, both on and off the chessboard. There were more than a few heartbreaks, setbacks that really tested me, not just as a player, but as a person.
But through it all, I chose to stay positive. I took a step back, started putting in serious work behind the scenes, changing my mindset, rebuilding my confidence, and improving my game. When I felt ready again, I returned to the board in April for my first tournament of the year. That was the comeback moment for me and made me believe yeah, I'm still in the fight.
The rest isn’t history yet, it’s still being written, and the journey is far from over. But one thing’s for sure: it’s only up from here!
More to come by the grace of God!
So What's Really the Next Chapter?
I guess I'll find out as time passes but one thing is certain, the work doesn't stop!
The community's support and encouragement will be highly appreciated. Happy I could share a major highlight in my career to you guys and hope to keep bringing more good news as the journey unfolds.
