Ms. Mitsu Tanaka, who led the women's lib movement in the 1970s, passed away on August 7, 2024 due to multiple organ failure at the age of 81. I would like to express my deepest condolences.
Although I was not involved in women's lib in real time, I believe that Ms. Tanaka's activities and writings should still be known today as a link to the feminist movement that followed. The video above is a digest of the documentary film "This Star Is Not My Star," which closely followed Ms. Tanaka for four years. As shown in the movie, Mr. Tanaka was also an acupuncturist and a moxibustion therapist, and in his later years, he was involved in the Okinawa base issue and even went to Okinawa to sit-in on the issue himself.
The video below is of a lecture he gave at Kyoto Seika University in 2020. It is over an hour and a half long, so if you have time, please watch it. After listening to the video, I thought Ms. Tanaka's speech was calm and rational, even though women's lib and feminism are often perceived emotionally.

1970年代ウーマン・リブ（女性解放）運動の先頭に立った田中美津さんが、2024年8月7日、多臓器不全のため亡くなられました。81歳でした。心より哀悼の意を表します。
私はウーマン・リブにはリアルタイムで関わっていませんが、その後のフェミニズム運動につながるものとして、田中さんの活動や著作などは今でも知るべきものであろうと思います。上の動画は４年にわたり田中さんに密着したドキュメンタリー映画「この星は、私の星じゃない」のダイジェスト版です。この中にもあるように、田中さんは鍼灸師でもあり、また晩年は沖縄の基地問題にかかわり、自ら沖縄へ行って座り込みもしていたようです。
下の動画は2020年の京都精華大学での講演会の動画です。こちらは1時間半を超えますので、お時間のある方はどうぞ。私はこれを聴いて、ウーマンリブとかフェミニズムとかはどうしても感情的にとらえられがちだけれども、田中さんは穏やかで、話も理性的だと思いました。
