After the Marineford War and the pain it dragged with it, came silence. The crew separated for two years, to train and grow, to become stronger to face what's to come.✨ When we see the mugiwaras reunited in Sabaody again, not only have they changed: the world has also taken a turn. And what was once an adventure filled with laughter and camaraderie now feels like a story that carries the wounds of the past...and the weight of what's to come.
In my previous review I went over everything that made One Piece special before what we call the “timeskip” (that two-year span). But this new phase only reaffirmed what I already knew: One Piece is more than a pirate story. It's a call for change, for freedom, and for fighting for dreams, even when the sea gets darker.

La tripulación se separó por dos años, para entrenar y crecer, y así ser más fuertes para enfrentarse a lo que viene✨ Cuando volvemos a ver a los mugiwaras reunidos en Sabaody, no solo han cambiado ellos: el mundo también ha dado un giro. Y lo que antes era una aventura llena de risas y camaradería, ahora se siente como una historia que carga con las heridas del pasado... y el peso de lo que está por venir.
En mi reseña anterior repasé todo lo que hizo especial a One Piece antes de lo que llamamos el "timeskip" (ese lapso de dos años). Pero esta nueva etapa solo reafirmó lo que ya sabía: One Piece es más que una historia de piratas. Es un llamado al cambio, a la libertad y a la lucha por los sueños, incluso cuando el mar se vuelve más oscuro.
It's a before and an after for the anime. The reunion in the Sabaody Archipelago is an emotional moment, but also they prove that, although they have been separated, they never stopped sailing in the same direction.
Each of them was sent by chance -that's what we'll call Kuma's wisdom- to a specific place. Each island, each environment, was the ideal training ground for what each needed to learn. Our captain, Luffy, trained with Rayleigh (former second-in-command to the Pirate King) to master the Haki; while also learning to cope with grief, heal his wounds, regain his confidence and understand that he still had a crew for which he had to give his all.
In short, the story goes like this: against all odds, Zoro swallows his pride and trains with his greatest rival, to polish his way to surpass him and become the best swordsman. Nami was sent to a “sky island”, one of the best places to understand the weather and know how to manage it in her favor.
Usopp had to face his fear and learn to take risks to survive on an island that wanted to devour him, but hey! his skill with plants is totally beneficial. My cute Sanji, he would have dreamed of being sent to the “Island of Women” -although we know he would have bled to death soon after-, instead he was sent to a similar place, and the important thing is that he improved his fighting style a lot, and those jumps in the sky? Beautiful👌
Es un antes y un después para el anime. El reencuentro en el Archipiélago Sabaody es un momento emotivo, pero también demuestran que, aunque hayan estado separados, nunca dejaron de navegar en la misma dirección.
Cada uno de ellos fue enviado por casualidad ―así llamaremos a la sabiduría de Kuma― a un lugar específico. Cada isla, cada entorno, fue el campo de entrenamiento ideal para lo que cada uno necesitaba aprender. Nuestro capitán, Luffy, entrenó con Rayleigh (antiguo segundo al mando del Rey de los Piratas) para dominar el Haki; mientras que también aprendía a enfrentar el duelo, sanar sus heridas, recuperar su confianza y comprender que aún tenía una tripulación por la cual debía dar todo.
En resumen, la cosa queda así: contra todo pronóstico Zoro se traga el orgullo y entrena con su mayor rival, para pulir su camino de superarlo y convertirse en el mejor espadachín. Nami fue enviada a una isla del cielo, uno de los mejores lugares para comprender el clima y saber manejarlo a su favor.
Usopp tuvo que enfrentar su miedo y aprender a tomar riesgos para sobrevivir en una isla que lo quería devorar, pero hey! su habilidad con las plantas es totalmente beneficiosa. Mi lindo Sanji, hubiera soñado con ser enviado a la Isla de las Mujeres -aunque sabemos que se hubiera desangrado al poco tiempo-, en su lugar fue enviado a un sitio similar, y lo importante es que mejoró muchísimo su estilo de pelea, ¿y esos saltos en el cielo? Bellos👌
Chopper feels more assertive, more confident as a doctor and we know he is the real dealer in One Piece🤭. My girl Robin created contacts with certain revolutionaries, and now she knows more about Luffy's family, than Luffy😂; however, I loved that detail, since knowing her history it was very significant that she met people who were publicly and directly giving fight to the Government.
Franky is a carpenter who is already more cyborg than man, do we love him more? Of course we do, plus that little wink to Vegapunk was Oda demonstrating his perfectionism in every detail. And last, but not least, we have Brook who becomes a real rockstar, he always was, but now he is globally recognized -and honestly, for me he has the best poster of Wanted-.
They were alone. No letters, no news. Not knowing if the others were still alive or if they would return. But still, they all trained for the same reason: to become stronger for and by their captain. That level of commitment, without the need for words, is what makes the Mugiwara so special.
Chopper se siente más firme, más confiado como médico y aunque sabemos que es el verdadero traficante en One Piece🤭. Mi niña Robin creó contactos con ciertos revolucionarios, y ahora conoce más a la familia de Luffy, que el mismo Luffy😂; como sea, ese detalle me encantó, dado que conociendo su historia fue muy significativo que conociera a gente que estuviera pública y directamente dándole pelea al Gobierno.
Franky es un carpintero que ya es más cyborg que hombre, ¿lo amamos más? Claro que sí, además que ese pequeño guiño a Vegapunk fue Oda demostrando su perfeccionismo en cada detalle. Y, por último, pero no menos importante, tenemos a Brook que se convierte en un verdadero rockstar, siempre lo fue, pero ahora es globalmente reconocido -y, sinceramente, para mí él tiene el mejor poster de "Se Busca"-
Estuvieron incomunicados. Sin cartas, sin noticias. Sin saber si los demás seguían vivos o si regresarían. Pero aún así, todos entrenaron por la misma razón: volverse más fuertes por y para su capitán. Ese nivel de compromiso, sin necesidad de palabras, es lo que hace que los mugiwaras sean tan especiales.

It's a welcome to the bottom of the sea🌊 This arc is colorful, extravagant and visually beautiful (Oda went wild with so many details), plus we meet another Poneglyph and delve into that lost history of humanity (and I adore everything about the Vod Century). We see the new power level of the mugiwaras, with fights that are no longer “oops, almost lost”, but a “I'll give you five seconds to surrender”.

Es una bienvenida al fondo del mar🌊 Este arco es colorido, extravagante y visualmente hermoso (Oda se desató con tantos detalles), además que nos encontramos con otro Poneglyph y profundizamos en esa historia perdida de la humanidad (y yo adoro todo lo relacionado con el Siglo Vacío). Vemos el nuevo nivel de poder de los mugiwaras, con peleas que ya no son "uy, casi pierde", sino un "te doy cinco segundos para rendirte".

The Island of Fire and Ice, where the alliance with another young captain who is also making history in the New World -as well as being the owner of my heart- begins: Trafalgar Law✨ We also meet Caesar Clown, and with his experiments we notice how the tone of the story is changing: the humor is maintained, but everything gets more intense, deeper... harder.

La isla de fuego y hielo, donde comienza la alianza con otro joven capitán que también está haciendo historia en el Nuevo Mundo -además de ser el dueño de mi corazón-: Trafalgar Law✨ También conocemos a Caesar Clown, y con sus experimentos notamos como va cambiando el tono de la historia: el humor se mantiene, pero todo se pone más intenso, más profundo... más duro.

🦩Dressrosa (one of the best)
For me this arc has it all: gladiator tournaments, spies, fairies, pirate alliances, lots of lore, family reunions, and one of the best villains in all of One Piece: Donquixote Doflamingo, with a level of cruelty we haven't seen so far. And why is he one of the favorites? Because he's not the typical villain that the prota evangelizes. Doffy has always been bad, and always will be, and he's bad to boot, but we can't deny that the man has style, is smart and powerful, loves his crew, and gives us tremendous backstory with Law and.... Corazon❤️ My intuition tells me that Doflamingo will be back, and I'm dying to know what he'll do.
Also, in Dressrosa the animation improves a lot, especially in the fights, with effects that highlight each stroke. Luffy debuts his Gear Fourth, and the final fight is long, but too satisfying. Another detail I love is the great pirate bonding created here, with the biggest fan of mugiwaras and even giants🤩 It's one of the arcs with the best characters, and a demonstration of Luffy's genuine and humble heart.
🦩Dressrosa (Uno de los mejores)
Para mí este arco lo tiene todo: torneos de gladiadores, espías, hadas, alianzas piratas, mucho lore, reencuentros familiares, y uno de los mejores villanos de todo One Piece: Donquixote Doflamingo, con un nivel de crueldad que no hemos visto hasta ahora. ¿Y por qué es uno de los favoritos? Porque no es el típico villano que el prota evangeliza. Doffy siempre ha sido malo, y siempre lo será, y es malo con ganas, pero no podemos negar que el hombre tiene estilo, es inteligente y poderoso, ama a su tripulación, y nos da tremenda backstory con Law y... Corazon❤️ Mi intuición me dice que Doflamingo volverá, y muero por saber qué hará.
Además, en Dressrosa la animación mejora muchísimo, especialmente en los combates, con efectos que resaltan cada golpe. Luffy debuta su Gear Fourth, y la pelea final es larga, pero demasiado satisfactoria. Otro detalle que me encanta es la gran unión pirata que se crea aquí, con el mayor fan de los mugiwaras y hasta gigantes🤩 Es uno de los arcos con mejores personajes, y una demostración del genuino y humilde corazón de Luffy.

🐘🌳Zou
We completely changed scenery, and arrived at a place straight out of Oda-sensei's craziest ideas: an island on the back of a giant and millenary elephant🐘🌳 After so much fighting in the previous arc, Zou feels like a breath of calm, because it's more an arc of relieves (although it has some impotent and hard to watch flashbacks), here the Poneglyphs are explained, with the important Road Poneglyphs that will bring us closer to the One Piece. We meet a new species: the Minks, and the seeds are planted for the long-awaited Wano arc and the final climax of the journey that began in Punk Hazard.
A new alliance is formed: Ninja-Pirate-Mink-Samurai. And there is a scene in which we realize that Luffy and Naruto would be excellent friends🤭
🐘🌳Zou
Cambiamos completamente de escenario, y llegamos a un lugar sacado de las ideas más locas de Oda-sensei: una isla sobre el lomo de un elefante gigante y milenario🐘🌳 Después de tanta pelea en el arco anterior, Zou se siente como un respiro de calma, porque es un arco más de relevaciones (aunque tiene unos flashbacks impotentes y dificiles de ver), aquí se explican los Poneglyphs y los importantes Road Poneglyphs que nos acercarán al One Piece. Conocemos una nueva especie: los Minks, y se plantan las semillas para el tan esperado arco de Wano y el clímax final del camino que comenzó en Punk Hazard.
Se forma la alianza: Ninja-Pirata-Mink-Samurái. Y se da una escena en que nos damos cuenta que Luffy y Naruto serían excelentes amigos🤭

🎂Whole Cake Island
An island of sugar, cakes and family traumas🍭 The final journey of this series of arcs is Wano, but Luffy won't get there without his left hand: Sanji🥺 Because, as Luffy says, he can't become the King of Pirates if he lacks a member of his crew. This is Sanji's character development arc, here he shines and suffers -and we all suffer with him-, we understand the reason for so much chivalry with women, and a very sad past.
The aesthetics of this arc are like being trapped in a macabre fairy tale: cookie cutter houses, talking trees, and a mad empress who can destroy countries... or eat them. It's Luffy's first real fight against a Yonkou, one of the Four Emperors of the Sea. And, honestly, the least favorite for me... I can't tolerate Big Mom, sorry. I see her as a tantrum child. I don't tolerate her or her dozens of children... except Katakuri, great man👌
And we have one of the most romantic and iconic scenes in the anime, probably Pudding is Sanji's soulmate, buuuut... also sorry, that couple has «something» I don't like.
🎂Whole Cake Island
Una isla de azúcar, pasteles y traumas familiares🍭 El trayecto final de esta serie de arcos es Wano, pero Luffy no llegará allá sin su mano izquierda: Sanji🥺 Por que, como dice Luffy, no puede convertirse en el Rey de los Piratas si le falta un integrante de su tripulación. Es el arco del desarrollo de personaje de Sanji, aquí brilla y sufre -y todos sufrimos con él-, entendemos la razón de tanta caballerosidad con las mujeres, y un pasado muy triste.
La estética de este arco es como estar atrapado en un cuento de hadas macabro: casas de galleta, árboles que hablan y una emperatriz loca que puede destruir países... o comérselos. Es la primera pelea real de Luffy contra un Yonkou, uno de los Cuatro Emperadores del Mar. Y, sinceramente, la menos favorita para mí... no tolero a Big Mom, lo siento. La veo como una niña berrinchuda. No la tolero ni a ella, ni a sus decenas de hijos... excepto Katakuri, grandioso👌
Y tenemos una de las escenas más románticas e icónicas del anime, probablemente Pudding sea el alma gemela de Sanji, peeeero... también lo siento, esa pareja tiene «algo» que no me agrada.

Although One Piece has never been a «light» anime, in the post-timeskip arcs the story dives into much darker waters. Through these arcs, Oda directly exposes issues such as human, arms and drug trafficking, inhumane experimentation on children, classism and racism, slavery and political control through fear and repression. All that in an anime about pirates looking for a great treasure? Well, yes, there is that and a whole lot more. What is known of One Piece is only the tip of a large iceberg, only when you allow yourself to immerse yourself completely, is that you manage to understand the wonder that Eiichirō Oda created.
In the New World the figure of the World Government is no longer represented as an “authority of dubious provenance”, but we see that it is a deeply corrupt system that allows (and sometimes even promotes) extreme abuses in order to maintain “control” over the world.
Each island is a reflection of a different injustice, and they are arcs where the antagonists no longer only seek power or wealth, but absolute control over people. Seeing how the Straw Hats and their allies confront these realities reinforces the idea that this story is more than an adventure, it is a social critique disguised as anime shonen.
Aunque One Piece nunca ha sido una anime «ligero», en los arcos post-timeskip la historia se sumerge en aguas mucho más oscuras. A través de estos arcos, Oda expone de forma directa problemáticas como el tráfico de personas, armas y drogas, la experimentación inhumana con niños, el clasismo y racismo, la esclavitud y el control político a través del miedo y la represión. ¿Todo eso en un anime de piratas que buscan un gran tesoro? Pues sí, hay eso y muchísimo más. Lo que se conoce de One Piece es solo la punta de una gran iceberg, solo cuando te permites sumergirte por completo, es que logras entender la maravilla que creó Eiichirō Oda.
En el Nuevo Mundo la figura del Gobierno Mundial ya no es representada como una "autoridad de dudosa procedencia", sino que ya vemos que es un sistema profundamente corrupto que permite (y a veces hasta promueve) abusos extremos con tal de mantener el "control" sobre el mundo.
Cada isla es el reflejo de una injusticia distinta, y son arcos donde los antagonistas ya no solo buscan poder o riqueza, sino el control absoluto sobre las personas. Ver cómo los Sombreros de Paja y sus aliados se enfrentan a estas realidades, refuerza la idea de que esta historia más allá de una aventura, es una crítica social disfrazada de anime shonen.

Finally, it's important to note that the timeskip also brought a change in the aesthetics of the anime. The character design became more polished, modern, with more vivid colors and more fluid animations. Yes, they changed. But, at the same time, they are still them. Stronger, more mature, smarter. Because if something is clear to them is that Luffy's dream is not only theirs: it is everyone's💖
I know there are some very important things missing to comment (Wano? Vegapunk? My beautiful Law?), but these are arcs that deserve their own space, so I'll share my opinion later. For now, I can only mention that I started this anime just wanting to know why it was so popular for decades, and I ended up crying, laughing, screaming and clapping as if I knew them since always❤️
Para finalizar, es importante destacar que el timeskip también trajo un cambio en la estética del anime. El diseño de personajes se volvió más pulido, moderno, con colores más vivos y animaciones más fluidas. Sí, cambiaron. Pero, al mismo tiempo, siguen siendo ellos. Más fuertes, más maduros, más listos. Porque si algo tienen claro es que el sueño de Luffy no es solo suyo: es el de todos💖
Sé que faltan cosas muy importantes que comentar (¿Wano? ¿Vegapunk? ¿Mi hermoso Law?), pero son arcos que merecen su propio espacio, así que les compartiré mi opinión más adelanta. Por ahora, solo puedo mencionar que comencé este anime solo queriendo saber por qué era tan popular por décadas, y terminé llorando, riendo, gritando y aplaudiendo como si los conociera desde siempre❤️
