Superman fans would love this place! I stumbled upon this exhibition room while wandering inside Manila Ocean Park. The Super Toy Collection is just one of the attractions included in our itinerary. It was the very last attraction we visited, and I can say that the last was worthwhile.
Upon entering the place, we were stunned by a white crystal room with an ethereal appearance that resembled to Fortress of Solitude which is Superman's sanctuary somewhere in the Arctic. My little nephew was astonished, and kept looking up, and wanted to touch the displays.
As we headed into a dark room, the same sanctuary was exhibited with a green light effect, making the place more grand and seeming to radiate power. Meanwhile, mirrors on the walls create a spacious-looking place. I imagined Superman in his solitary mode somewhere in the corner.
Moving forward, we stumbled upon a telephone booth and a floating jeepney. I don't seem to fathom if the telephone booth has been included in any Superman series. I probably missed it.
If there is a Filipino Superman, then perhaps this was made for him. Visitors would imitate what Superman does by lifting the jeepney with one hand overhead. My little nephew was too curious and looked astonished, so my brother let him hold it too. The little Superman was too cute in his pose. He seemed to want to ride on it because this little guy likes to broom broom. It's the sound of a vehicle, but we usually use it as a kiddie term, saying we'll go for a ride. He'll be a Hodophile too like Tita Jane someday.
There's a display called Super Hearing Pipes which portrays Superman's ability to perceive sounds from great distances, even sounds generated in pipes. It becomes a toy for visitors by creating a sound on one end, and the other one on the other end could hear it.
We entered a room where different Super Toy collections and souvenir items were displayed. I was speechless and amazed by the number of collections inside. At the same time, I wished I could grab some to take home.
The biggest among all would truly catch one's attention, especially our little guy's. He was even more amazed as he liked playing with such toys. At least, I confirmed that he won't grow up into a man with a lady's heart, just like his uncle who exactly looked like him when he was a kid. We even often joke about it.
And since my father is gone, let them be partners, I joked. They are both on Team Yellow, by the way.
Both shelves contain different collections of different versions of Superman in various sizes. Regardless of the version, Superman still has a bulky body in all of them. There are a lot, but I just captured a few since my companions aren't into photography and I felt awkward doing so. Unbeknownst to them, it's my hobby, and I did so for my travel articles.
I bet these ladies are the Superwoman version. Meanwhile, below is the Cyborg version. Both were seen in some Superman series.
Have you picked your favorite Superman toy? There are more that kids would love. The stuffed Super Toy collections and our little guy seemed to like the soft and fluffy ones more than the bulky body Superman toys. One of them was Super Dog which we called Duterts, our late father's favorite dog's name, and our little guy went near it.
When this little guy is at home, he likes chasing our dog, Duterts, and playing with him. He seemed to always want to cuddle our little dog, just like our late father usually does.
And look what he did! He's making close eye-to-eye contact with the Super Dog, and he even kissed it, lol. He looks adorable, isn't he?
Apart from Superman toys, there are other collectibles too, like tumblers, mugs, plates, cutlery, and others with Superman designs. They are perfect gift items, not just for kids but for adults too.
Even the Magnolia choco tetra pack with the Justice League design is included.
The Superman transformation. I'm not familiar with the 2011 version, though. Anyone?
If there are toy collections, there are, of course, comic book collections where Superman stories began and inspirations to bring Superman stories to real-life series and movies. Some of these comics are very old versions, as you can tell by the covers.
Now, which one do you want to take home, if ever? I'll definitely take one Superman toy and a comic book. Unfortunately, these collections seemed not for sale, as there were no price tags and no staff on duty. They are purely displays for the Super Toy Collection exhibition. Nonetheless, it was a worthwhile tour of this exhibition that made me reminisce about some old memories from different Superman series I've watched.
If you want to visit this place, simply visit Manila Ocean Park. Of course, it isn't free. But the park has discounted tickets this month. From Php3,000+ price, it is now Php699, and the promo period is until January. The Super Toy Collection is located next to the World of Creepy Crawlers.
