For me, Lord of the Mysteries (LOTM), Reverend Insanity (RI), and Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint (ORV) are some of the greatest pieces of fiction I’ve ever consumed. Watching anime is great, but once you dive into the deep ocean of web novels, anime will feel like kindergarten cartoons! Nowadays, everyone’s caught up in the anime hype, but I’m telling you, if you want real storytelling, extreme world-building, and brain-melting plot twists, you absolutely cannot miss these three novels.
These aren’t random suggestions—these are my top-tier favorite web novels that will make you rethink life itself! If you got a “Never Give Up” attitude from watching Naruto, these novels will show you that in this world, moral values mean nothing, and the only rule for survival is to survive at any cost.
So, I’m throwing down a challenge to all anime lovers: read Reverend Insanity, Lord of the Mysteries, and Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint, then come back and tell me if they’re any less amazing than anime!
Name | Reverend Insanity |
Author | Gu Zhen Ren |
Genre | Dark Fantasy, Cultivation, Wuxia |
Status | Banned (Yes, it was too real for China to handle. Insecure.) |
When you start reading Reverend Insanity, you need to understand one thing: this is not your typical heroic cultivation novel! The main character, Fang Yuan, isn’t some chosen one with hidden powers. He’s pure evil—a ruthless mastermind reborn with 500 years of experience who only cares about power.
Character Breakdown
- Fang Yuan: He’s the kind of guy who’d keep you alive just to torture you until you beg for death.
- Morality: To Fang Yuan, moral values are a joke! Power is the only truth.
- World-building: Dark, brutal, and not a happy story—this is survival of the fittest in its most extreme form.
Why is it a masterpiece?
- No show-off moments of kindness or mercy like typical protagonists.
- The scheming and manipulation are so high-level, your IQ will automatically increase by 10 points!
- Unlike cultivation novels with “friendship” or “sect loyalty,” this one has nothing but betrayal, manipulation, and pure self-interest!
Opinion: If you think Eren, Lelouch, or Light are great villain protagonists, trust me, you don’t know what a true villain protagonist is! Want to see one? Reading Reverend Insanity is a must. If you don’t, you’ll never know!
Name | Lord of the Mysteries (My personal favorite) |
Author | Cuttlefish That Loves Diving |
Genre | Mystery, Steampunk, Supernatural, Fantasy |
Status | Completed |
If I had to describe Lord of the Mysteries in one sentence: “This novel is so mind-blowing that once you start reading, you won’t be able to escape!” It’s basically an insane mix of steampunk Sherlock Holmes, Lovecraftian horror, and detective thriller! The story starts with Klein Moretti, an ordinary guy who, while researching “mysticism,” gets thrown into a superpowered world. What follows is mystery after mystery, deadly organizations, and a power system so complex it feels like studying physics.
What makes it unique?
- The power system is so deep you might need to take notes to understand it fully!
- The world is so complex that at times you’ll wonder, “Am I reading a novel or did I pick up the wrong book?”
- Mind-blowing plot twists! If you think you’re clever, this novel will make you feel dumb in a minute!
Opinion: Think Attack on Titan has the best plot twists? Bro, read LOTM and watch your mind spin.
Name | Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint (My first Korean novel) |
Author | Sing Shong |
Genre | Apocalypse, Action, Fantasy |
Status | Completed |
Imagine you’re taking a chemistry exam, and suddenly the periodic table comes to life! Hydrogen is attacking you, and you’re trying to ignore the situation like you’re Helium! Sounds insane, right? Well, Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint (ORV) gives you that kind of vibe, except instead of a chemistry nightmare, an entire novel’s world becomes reality!
Kim Dokja is a helpless office worker stuck in a life of endless work and his boss’s lectures. His only source of joy? An obscure novel called Three Ways to Survive the Apocalypse, which he’s been reading alone for years. It’s basically his personal One Piece! (The One Piece is real, btw) But guess what? Before the novel’s final chapter, its entire world becomes reality! Now, Kim Dokja has to team up with his favorite main character, Yoo Joonghyuk, to survive in this real-life story.
Why is it amazing?
Self-aware storytelling at its finest!
Kim Dokja is basically a reader like us, thinking, “Bro, I know all this!” as he tries to handle his fate. But once he’s in the story, he realizes knowing spoilers and surviving in reality are not the same!
Insane character development!
Kim Dokja starts as an ordinary guy who probably should’ve had a gym membership but doesn’t. As the story progresses, he becomes a character that’ll throw you into an existential crisis!
Massive twists & emotional rollercoaster!
ORV will make you laugh, cry, blow your mind, and cry again! It’s not just a power fantasy—it’s a “I came for fun, now I’m questioning life” kind of masterpiece!
Opinion: If you don’t read ORV, your life will stay the same, but you’ll miss out on an extraordinary story! Staring at a chemistry book wondering, “How many valence electrons?” is nowhere near as worth it as watching Kim Dokja’s struggle! Trust me, this isn’t “just another web novel”—it’s the peak of the isekai genre!
Final Words (If you’re still not convinced to read these three)
Anime is great, no doubt. But the level of deep storytelling you get from novels is on another planet! The question is: are you satisfied with anime’s 20-minute flashy fights, or are you ready to understand peak fiction?
I’ve handed you three masterpieces! If you want to fully immerse yourself in a story, read them! And if your attention span is like a worm’s, fine, stick to shounen anime’s repetitive formula!
But seriously, these three novels were handpicked to take your entertainment to the next level. This is peak fiction. This is some of the greatest storytelling ever created.
So, anime lover bros, take the challenge! Read these three novels and tell me—are they less intense than anime, or are they truly next level?
