Hello everyone, Today I am sharing my opinion about a beautiful but unpopular anime movie The Tunnel to the Summer, The Door to the Goodbyes. I didn't expect much from this movie but I was relieved that this movie is emotional and twists time. So, we enter into the mystery and heartbreak.
Story Summary
The movie revolves around a high school student named Kaoru Tano who is terrified by the unfortunate death of his younger sister. Everything in his life changes when he learns about an urban legend about the Urashima Tunnel - a tunnel that can fulfill any dream you have in exchange for your time. Kaoru is curious and hungry to correct the past so looks into it.
Shortly after he meets another girl who has her own feelings, desires, Anju Hanashiro. The two friends decide to enter the tunnel and test its power. After entering it, time seems to work in reverse, leaving days and even years in the real world. In the surreal space they are connected to, they reflect on their traumas and consider the expected consequences of their rage against time and fate.
A combination of youthful desire, science-fiction mystery, and painful emotions, What Would You Give Up to Change the Past? is the specialty of this film. It is a romantic juicy story and some fantasy. The melancholic mood is perfectly combined with the scene description filled with deep lighting and nostalgic tones.
My Review
The Tunnel to Summer is a tear-jerker that leaves a silent impression. I also liked that the movie did not explain the underlying narrative of the science-fiction too much but was concerned with the emotional heaviness of the character's decisions. Both Kaoru and Anju are damaged in one way or another and their involvement was natural and subtle.
The imagery is beautiful and moody. The silences used in some scenes are very powerful and every word and every action is important. It works as a standalone story with a more personal style.
This anime is not as well known as other time travel anime, but it is still worth it. If you like reading inspiring stories about fantasy, loss, love, and letting go, then this is for you.
Thanks you so much for reading. See you next :)
