Good evening all, tonight I'm mixing it up from the usual anime-related post.
Tonight we are going down the Manga route for a change, taking a look at a fun series called Maid-sama! or Kaichou wa Maid-sama!
I actually read this series a long, long time ago, when I was a much younger fellow in fact 😥
I came across it by accident on a website, and at the time, I needed something fun and lighthearted to start reading as I had been watching anime and playing too many games, so my daily screen time was through the roof. That is how I came to find the manga series Maid-sama!
Year of release: 2005
Published: 2005 to 2013
Number of volumes: 18
Number of chapters: 98
Author: Hiro Fujiwara
Genre: Romance and Comedy
Theme: School
My rating: 6.5/10

Maid-sama! is set in what was once an all-boys school, but then changes into a co-educational school. We are presented with the main female lead, Misaki Ayuzawa. The school's first female council president of the school, who has a serious dislike of the boys in the school and wants equal status between the sexes.
This leads to Misaki gaining the very true nickname, Demon President!

Misaki harbors a deep and very dark secret. She's dirt poor and has a job that she has to do to be able to support her family.
Whatever could this dark and mysterious job be, I hear you say?
Misaki works in a Maid Cafe, the most unlikely job for the aforementioned very unfeminine and brutal Council President Misaki.
Yup, you guessed it, the hot guy at school finds out, and from there, Misaki's secret may enter the world and completely destroy her reputation!
Let the threats and bribery commence!

Now as most series go, the story is a bit cliche and the general stuff happens, 2 characters falling in love that really don't look like they will fit well together, to a hidden job that can't be discovered but is quite early on etc etc
Even with all the usual cliched stuff, it actually worked out to be a fairly nice manga. There is decent character growth throughout, if you can get over the cheesy cliches, you might actually find that you enjoy the series quite a lot.
The art style is really what kept me, the artists work is lovely and you can tell they put a lot of time and effort into their craft. A very beautiful display of their skills.
The Manga was adapted into an Anime series in 2010, which I have seen and again was a nice easy going series to watch. Both have their pro's and con's, but overall both the manga and anime were both an enjoyable watch for me.
